New York friendly AR15 sporter
« on: January 15, 2013, 09:34:17 AM »
So, in light of New York's legislature they're thinking of adopting (Link) I was thinking of an AR with a montecarlo sporter stock to appeal to their hatred of pistol grips, converted to belt fed (through the side opposite the ejection port) to circumvent the magazine restriction (because it would not have a magazine at all).

If you think that sounds ridiculous, read the tripe on the link.

Chris.

Avy.. hey, when you think about it the AR platform is perfectly sportable, just like the Kalashnikove platform.  When you look at it, the darn thing is just a semi-auto rifle that can be had in so many different configurations that sporterization should be considered a natural evolution of that platform.

Go with a nice wood stock, good fitting and functional - black plastic stocks make cowards and liberals crap their pants; same with the pistol grips.  Demilitarize the barrel and action - go for a integral magazine or limit the mag to4 or 5 shots,  Use sporter sights and dress it for sporter scopes rather than mil-spec stuff.  The AR platform will sporterize better than any of the other semi-auto military actions we have used.  The aluminum might not take a nice blue but hey.......

I think the AR must undergo some cosmetic changes before it will be acceptable to the libs.

And to your point on the AR naturally evolving into a sporter carbine, as much as I love the look of a Kalashnikov, the Saiga has really grown on me with its different style stock set.  For the money, I believe a Saiga in 223, or 5.45x39, is one of the best guns out there for the money.  Dang I wish I had bought one.

An AK I'm partial to still wears its post ban legal thumbhole stock(wood) and I wouldn't change it for anything other than one with prettier wood. I like the autoloaders in useful sporting garb, add a 5rd mag and its as serious a deer rifle as any. J

In NY, most of the legislators..being from the big cities..have their heads up in a dark, smelly place.. Take that from someone who lives in nthe far western end of the state.
We  had one or two legislators from this end of the state who voted for the ban.  They were some of the core...  I won't call them by that name, but it's where they keep their heads..  They were from the Buffalo area of course...but still they weren't considered any kind of friend by the local talk-radio folks..
I wish we could take NY and PA and cut a line down along th Hudson R... excluding NYC..then down the  Sesquehanna R. and make a brand new state.  Very different people from one end of the state to the other.
I would just bet a lot of Oregon & Washington folks would like to do similar..and perhaps California too..

With the last ban before they started the thumbhole stocks they got by with this style. http://www.k-var.com/shop/VPR-701.html ARs were american made so they kept their pistol grips.
The CA legal stocks just don't look comfortable at all. http://www.tenpercentfirearms.com/index.php?main_page=ar15 I bet a fellow could make one that was more user friendly. Like a bench rest stock with a big drop at the grip.

Here's an idea just make a filler from the trigger to the stock on this. http://www.brpguns.com/categories/Semi-Auto-Firearms/XMG-Belt%252dFed-AR%252d15%7B47%7DM16-Upper-Receiver/

Another place where the legislators were stupid..outlawing the "pistol grip'..   All my rifles and shotguns have a pistol grip; none of them look like a 1911  or 1851 Colt army grip hanging from the gun..but they do have "pistol grips"...I just don't like stocks which run in a straight line from trigger guard to the toe of the buttplate.

Wait until the date when registration is required, whenever that is.  Lets see how many of the AR's currently legally owned by NYers actually get registered.   If California is any sort of barometer, you'll get less than 1% registration.

I think they call it: An Act Mass Civil Disobedience!

Right now California's lack of registration of their AR's has been called the largest act of mass civil disobedience in history.

what is it called when the County Sheriff says he will arrest feds who try to confiscate firearms? My County Sheriff is on record stating he will do just that.
