Picking up dead Moose
« on: November 19, 2012, 12:53:30 PM »
A couple of weeks ago a good friend convinced me to volunteer for this duty.  When called by the Troopers, go out and pick up Road Killed Moose.  Average Moose will go from 600 to 1000 lbs.  That's a lot of meat, and unlike down south when a Moose gets hit by a car or truck, no body drives off leaving it on the side of the road.  The car or truck is usually totaled, and the people are sent to the hospital.  Sometimes the Moose gets up and walks away.  Most of the time it's injured enough it can not get up.  The Trooper then puts it down.  That's when we get called.  Here is an article from the Fairbanks Daily News Miner that pretty much explains it.  Rog

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

"Grilled" moose with just a hint of "cherry" red fender paint.
