CLOSE FRIEND NOW HOMELESS DUE TO EARLY MORNING FIRE TODAY
« on: November 19, 2012, 03:46:50 AM »
A close friend of mine for the last nine years suffered the loss of his home early this morning due to a fire. Nothing was salvaged as it burned to the ground. I left for work this morning and had just climbed out of my truck when my neighbor called and told me it was burning, so I rushed back and tried to help. We all live on a hill, and this morning had a stiff south wind that made the fire even more intense. My friend could only stand there and watch it burn havin nothin left but what he had on.
Myself and two neighbors used fire extinguishers, and a water hose but all was lost in minutes. I am about to go to Sherman this morning and see if I can get him a few things that will help him out, and at least get him thru the winter months.
I'm gonna get him a new house, a new feeder, some new bedding, and a new "brooder light", and maybe even a new collar.
Huff has been a good friend, and although he digs too much. He hates everyone except family, keeps the snakes killed, cats killed, and the squirrels out of my pecan trees. Huff's not only a good friend, he's just an all around damn good dog. Mornin guys!

So what was the cause of the fire? Was he smoking in bed?

Every year I put fresh cedar chips in for bedding, and a fresh chick brooder bulb. The bulb must have been bad, and when the chips caught the plastic house caught. Thick plastic burns hot and big when you finally get it goin. I replaced everything today, but have a big mess to haul off from the kennel. It even burned the feeders.
