I've had a 338-06 A-Square Ultra for many years, it was done by Wayne York on a 26" 25-06 barrel.

Hodgdon and Nosler use a 24" barrel in their test data for an idea for comparison.

338-06, that's one caliber I do not have.  Never had a desire to try it either.  I have been totally satisfied with the 30-06 and the .35 Whelen for years.  Then last year I got a 25-06, and love it almost as much as the 30-06.  Maybe I'll have to check out the 338-06, I might find something else to play with.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I tell ya Rog, I love my 338/06!  I shoot 180 gr. Nosler BT's and can get up around 3K fps if I want.  Unfortunately Nosler doesn't make the BT anymore but I believe there is a 180 gr bonded type out there.   They should be even better from your point of view!   ;D
