Tikka Light
« on: October 17, 2012, 04:02:09 PM »
Hi, I have had a lot of different makes of rifles in my life(52) but i have never owned a Tikka.
I have heard good things about the accuracy and smoothness of operation and the light weight.
Anyone here with experience with them ?
I sure would appreciate info on these rifles as i am thinking about buying one in 22-250.
Thanks
Craig

The Tikka T3 Lite rifles are everything you have heard and they are a decent middle priced choice.  I had one chambered in 300WSM and liked it (youngest son has it now).  If you want an accurate rifle without spending a lot of money it may be a good choice.  The only real point of dissatisfaction I had with mine was when the magazine dropped out while hunting, and the replacement was about $57 after shipping cost.  I don't know if I would buy another Tikka but can't really say why, as there is nothing "wrong" with them.

Hi bcraig,

I currently have a 2012 hunter on order in 243 (fluted barrel, wood stock).....since July 1st!!!  I also wanted something a bit different.  I have shot allot of TIKKA T3 Lites in 6.5, 308 and 338win (now THAT was interesting)!  They were all accurate and well made.  I have a SAKO M85 Finnlite in 06 that I'll compare it to though I suspect it will pass muster.

I have two Tikka rifles.  Both are easy sub MOA.  I love mine and will own another one.

Hi bcraig,

T3 Lite in .338 WM :o  I shoot one in .300 WM. I flinched a bit just reading .338WM and Tikka T3 Lite in the same sentence.

Buy the rifle and get a good scope and mounts as you will be having it for a long time. It tends toward function over form and if you want eye candy you might want to look at the laminate stock models. I put Warne dovetail mounts on mine and they have been rock solid. The stock is too soft to take tight sling shooting well (or I'm doing it wrong). I have a cheap assed B Square Bipod and with it mine will shoot MOA at 300yds and has since the 25th round.

I've got a T3 Lite Stainless in 9.3x62 and have another Lite Stainless in 7mm-08 on lay-away. My 9.3mm is an excellent rifle, accurate, easy to carry and slick and smooth from the get go. The magazine thing is a tad annoying. They have one action length so if you own a long cartridge (my friend just bought a T3 Stainless Laminate in 338 Win) you may find yourself frustrated by OAL when handloading. I'd also caution you that while the stock alloy rings are fine with anything that's mild on the shoulder you should pick up some Sako Optiloks or Talley steel rings instead if you are buying a bigger cal. The solid recoil of the 9.3x62 slowly killed the stock rings I received with the rifle. The 7mm-08 shouldn't be nearly as unkind but I'll more likely eventually go for some Talleys like I fitted to the 9.3mm. But that aside it's excellent. My general experience is that people who think T3s are cheap and shoddy rifles have never owned or shot one.

I have owned (and still own) several Tikka rifles, both the original Whitetail Hunter (WH) series, and the newer T3 series.  They are both EXCELLENT rifles, and I can't stop raving about them.  Quality is excellent, fit and finish is also excellent, and the accuracy is...well....excellent.  Plus, take a look at a Tikka trigger and you will see that it is about as close to a Jewell Trigger that you can get from the factory.  My #1 choice of "middle priced" rifle brands is Tikka.
