I will also venture to say that this barrel definitely deserves to be described as an "extremely ornate cannon."
I sure hope that Douglas doesn't get a good look at those well rounded bare bottoms adorning the cascabel though; or it'll be another case of a "missing link", and I'm not talking about the kind that Darwin was interested in either. Ha, Ha, Ha!

RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

Show this to the Civilwar Guru and he will tell you how it was used by Confederate troops from the french quarter of New Orleans and that ladies of the night donated money to have it cast............
That is one cannon of very high art of the gun founding craft!
