The ineffecieny and ignorance of corporate walmart.
« on: November 30, 2012, 05:42:59 PM »

Had to go to wm today, not feeling well and just wanted to get things done and go home. Had them chg oil. In 3 yrs price has gone from under $20 to $40. Needed windshield wipers. They goy a contract with valvoline now and have the blades in the shop, cheapest $25. I said ridiculous, I'll buy them inside, ok, then we'll have to chg you $5 APIECE to put em on. Stuff it, I'll do it myself. I chkd my shopping list and found that 6 items were out of stock, none in back room.
No flashlite krypton 2aa bulbs, no bricks 22 ammo, not even mouse traps. 6 items out of stock. I talked to mgt which did no good but made me feel better. These morons can't seem to understand that bare shelves make no money. My old store has everybody under 30 hrs a week now thanks to osamacare, which I'm sure suits wm just fine. A costco store will be opening in a month or so, looking forward to trying them out. I did however buy a new maglite like Bank bought a while back. Most powerful 2 cell I've ever seen, I really like it. POWDERMAN.  Angry Angry

How long did you work for these "morons"?

I worked for them for 8 years. I had to quit 3 years ago because of my heart. Their ordering system was changed about 5 yrs ago. They quit allowing dept mgrs to order. That hurt a lot. I worked in hdw the last yr or so I was there. According to their system a PICK list came out every day of items to be stocked. If it wasn't on the list we could not stock it.

I've seen OUTS a month old or more that the merchandise was in the stock room and had been the whole time. We were told to lie and say the warehouse was out. One day I made up my own list and PICKED them myself. I brought out a cart with 34 outs on it. As I was stocking a mgr came by and aked if those were all PICKS, I said yes, MY PICKS. He told me I could fill the shelves but never to do that again. I told him I was fed up lying to customers for their sick system.

After that I paged him personally when an OUT was needed from stock. Walmart would be a great place to open a store. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

Like I said in another post. If a convenance store chain is putting the pressure on for higher wadges
to get more qualified employees to work there and they are. What are these places like Wal Mart going
to have to end up doing ? You can't expect perfection out of a guy who is only makeing $7.50 to
nine dollars an hour. Even if he is qualified he doesn't care, getting greasy and dirty and crawling under cars all day long is not a motivating experience.

The turn around in these places should tell upper management a thing or two. These guys would be better off working at the local FORD dealership even if it is on commission. I was shocked to see that when my nephew got a job for $22.00 dollars an hour that it was a marginal wage to raise a family
on. Wow, in my day that kind of money was unheard of except where it was what a bussiness
charged for its services. The average retainer for an attourney is now as high as $2,500.00.
And it's only getting worse, Wal Mart with record earnings needs to wake up and smell the coffee.

When you have people with a PHD or a BS working as a common floor hand on a drilling rig there is    a problem. The oil field is not known for its retention practices,it can shut down overnight.
But it's all these people have.

It does, it tells corporate that things are as planned. They WANT a high turtnover rate. The higher the turnover the more that will be making the starting wage and part time. The higher the turnover the better they like it.

Loyalty, dedication and quality of help mean nothing to them, customers either. I've have worked all 3 shifts in a week, done intentionally to raise the stress level. The higher the stress level the more that will quit, and the more new hires they can have, at the starting rate of course.  In 8 years I saw just about every dirty trick you could dream up. Walmart went south when Sam passed and Mrs. Walton quit being involved.  Those two made a team.  Shame the people in control now won't bother to learn how they got there.

The old WM was a Box Store in a community of Small Businesses incorporating many of the same features/services/merchandise for less.  The threat they represented was initially not apparent.  Then the Super WM replaced the more community-friendly WM version.

Real World:  A hurricane is approaching.  The location of landfall has been predicted in 36 hours.  Food Stores extend Public hours.  Banks extend Public hours.  Gas stations extend Public hours.  Super WM closes early.  The small businesses are gone and the commodities that the Public requires to survive the storm and its aftermath, flashlights, batteries, camp stoves, knives, sleeping bags, etc., is behind SWM's closed and locked doors.

Wal Mart is: Community Friendly - HA!..................................Worker Friendly - HA!...................................America Friendly - HA

Two other problems.  One is our factories going overseas.  They paid family raising wages, thus places like Walmart had to pay more or compete more for labor.  Two is legal and illegal immigration.  They are cheaper to hire for hard or dirty jobs.  Thus the poor Americans have no place to work.  This allows places like Walmart to hire them for low wages.

Last two pipeline construction workers we hired had college degrees.  Pays more than Walmart.

But it's all these people have.
With record earnings it seems they are doing something correct. Their sole mission is to sell things that earn them money. When that coincides with what you want to purchase that day good for both parties.

As far as inventory at the store level goes, I'm betting they want to have the fastest moving product mix for the inventory dollar. They are too stinking big to micro manage the mix for each store, ... and they no longer have the trust in the store managers or dept. managers. They come up with big ideas and good ideas if profit statements are to be believed. I believe that good employees at the local level might have better ideas at times as well.

Face it if Wal*Mart were so screwed up K-Mart would be golden right now, and they are not.  They will outlive their usefulness as have many other market dominate players. Sears, Montgomery Wards, Coast to Coast, Walden Books, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Mercury, Zayres, Airway, the list is endless. All were dominate players who stagnated and fell to the side. Wal*Marts time will come, if it is really so messed up.

Most of the time Wal*Mart is not for me I have other places I prefer to go. But, I do go there as apparently do many people.

What Wal*Mart needs first and foremost is a dress code and a bouncer, not a greeter.
