.223 - 1 in 11"?
« on: December 03, 2012, 11:14:40 AM »
I have a handi rifle in .223, SN ND248XXX.  It is marked SB-2.
I measured the twist with a cleaning rod with a tape flag on it, twice.  The measurement gives it a twist of 1:11".
Knowing that the published twists of the .223 handi rifles are 9" and 12", I wonder what I have on my hands.  I bought it thinking that it's age would make it a 1-12" to burn up a pile of 45 gr. bullets I happened upon.
Has anyone ever heard of this particular twist?

Nope, that's strange. I would check to see if it's a factory fitted barrel, check to see if it's ejector or extractor and check the manufacture date of the reciver if it is factory fitted.

Thanks, Dinny

All late H&R 223 barrels are 1:9", anything made after about 2007, yours is likely just as Doc said or built at the end of rifling tool life making it an oddball, standard twist for all H&Rs are listed in the FAQs.  ;)
