Hello, I was wondering if some of you could help me out on a sight decision? About a year ago, I bought from an older gunsmith a customized Ruger No.1 in .38-55. 26" 1/2 Oct. heavy brl. .800" at muzzle. Custom made 1/4 rid. Leupold scope held with Talley Q.D. mounts. 1/4 rib & underleaver case-colored, action & brl. rust blued. Stocked in fancy grained English walnut with custom grip cap, & buttplate..Ebony forend tip.
I was thinking of installing a ramp front sight. Since rifle has apearance of an early English sporting rifle, I was thinking of a NECG ramp front. They have one that mounts on top of brl. held by 1 screw..or a fancier one with band around brl. and same type of ramp.
The question I have is, the ramps are offered in two styles..a rounded profile to upper ramp surface, and a flat profile to upper surface. I was wondering even though the brl. is round up front..would the flat topped ramp tie in better with the angular 1/4 rib & 1/2 oct. brl?
I am having a rather fancy point pattern checkering on pistol grip & forend & am thinking the fancier band type would look nice..in your opinion would a band type front still have that "old timey" look I love so well..on a admittedly modern..though somewhat farquharson looking rifle? Thanks alot!
