Why BE, you didnt need a weatherman to tell you which way the wind blew, didja?!
We have a good sized Amish community near us and Ive admired how they have kept themselves self sufficient and have way more a sense of community than any of these big government utopian plans has done. My B&SILaw have scaled back and gone to raising rabbits, ducks, more garden and Bill hunts when it is season.
Stock up on Neosporin, Aspirin and TP too, it'll be great trading stock ifn ya dont use it all, and you'll never be sorry ya have it  ;) .

So when we reach $20 trillion, we have hyper inflation to pay back the debt with worthless dollars.  They have kept the interest rates artificially low for several years so the government can pay debt at a lower interest rate, and to try to keep down inflation.  We have inflation anyway and the government is lying about how much because they do not include fuel costs or food costs because they are to "volitile".  Well, most everyone has to drive to work, and everyone has to eat.  Inflation is really running about 10-12% the last 4 years based on 1980 methods.  It will run about 25% when we reach $20 trillion in debt.  That alone will be the tipping point to make us like Greece or Argentina a few years ago.  Only drastically cutting the federal spending, and raising some taxes will fix that.  Dems don't want to cut, GOP don't want to raise taxes.

Dixie I agree, but I think we will become like Zimbabwe was, where we will need a wheel barrow full of money to buy a loaf of bread. Greece couldn't print their own money. We have the Federal Reserve to just push the easy money button.
Those people who will not be governed by God will be ruled by tyrants.    Wm. Penn

For what is coming, the best investment is guns and ammo, or if one is inclined, a nice sized sailboat and learn how to sail.  I know how to sail and I've got lots of guns and ammo.  I just need to know exactly when the thing is going down the crapper, so I can load up and sail on out there.

At some point it might be prudent to sell the house and some of the cars and other stuff, but one still has to live until then.  I've been wondering which currency would be best to convert all the savings to.  My wife has enough jewelry to tide us over for longer than we'll probably live, but who's going to want bangles when food becomes short.

I say give the Lib's everything they want with the fiscal cliff issue.  Let them be FULLY responsible for the outcome and get this Country to wake up.  I am willing to take some of the hit as long as I know my child will grow up in a better situation in the long run.  We need to let Liberals fall on thier face.  This society needs PAIN.  Real PAIN.  Nothing will change until rock bottom is hit.  Sorry, but it is the truth.  The right doesn't stand a shot at winning another election unless the public feels pain from the policies of the left.  Even a sub-par performance from the left will win them elections to come.  It needs to be ALL on them.

I THINK ITS A GOOD THING TO GO OVER THE CLIFF

sorta  like taking away my X-wifes credit card
not  going to go over too  well..BUT has to be done

this will only afffect half the people  as the other half are just parasites and don't pay income tax

OBUMER seems to think  the burden can be put on  JUST THE RICEST 2%
just not enough  and not fair to pick  on this minority

better to spread the burden  over  all
top have will pay mor taxes
bottom  half will  not feed so much on the top half

some of the parasites  might even become a productive citizen and stop voting democrat
when drugs are outlawed only out laws will have drugs
DO WHAT EVER IT TAKES TO STOP A DEMOCRAT
OBAMACARE....the biggest tax hike in the  history of mankind
free choice and equality  can't co-exist
AFTER THE LIBYAN COVER-UP... remind any  democrat voters ''they sat and  watched them die''...they  told help to ''stand down''

Here is Ron Paul on the fiscal cliff:
http://www.lewrockwell.com/paul/paul835.html
The sole purpose of government is to protect your liberty. The Constitution is not to restrict the people, but to restrict government.  Ron Paul

The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first. - Thomas Jefferson

jdp29, good post. Right now the politicians are trying the methadone treatment, and hoping the patient will not go threw to bad of withdraw pains. Will not happen. Way to many hooked on the free stuff, handouts. Going cold turkey is the only way it's going to straighten out. And, that will cause great turmoil. gypsyman

Not there yet. We have another record spike in the markets accompanied by a record spike in inflation that will creat the final cliff, then we fall off the edge according to history. After the fall real values will will have to be re-established, that will be the depression. Along with the re-evaluation there is historically a war, a battle of shoilders and a battle of banks for the control of the base value of world dollars. That will be the mean times of the depression. All according to the cycles of history. It is outlined in all high school ecconomics books, or at least it was back in the last century when I was in high school. ear

So it dawned on me today while talking with one of my co-workers.
We all know that higher taxes result in fewer jobs and higher prices.
I often wondered who the jobs Obama was saying he created or saved during his campaign.
I now understand he thinks WELFARE is a JOB and that continuing welfare and or unemployment  for many and causing more to loose their jobs is a good thing.

Just watched a news report last night, on a guy that was an unemployed accoutant. He lives in Washington state. Got a job with the federal govt. and moved his family to just outside D.C. in Virginia. He is being paid $70,000 a year, and is barely making it.Seems the standard of living there is quite high. And, with the new tax rates going into effect, it might cost him an extra $1,500 a year. A person that has a paycheck from the very tax hike thats coming, can see what's happening. I say, let Obama have all. In short order, things will fall into place, and the ones who believe all you have to do is tax the rich, will find out it's alittle more complicated than that. Going over the fiscal cliff will wake up some people. gypsyman
