Canned tuna vs. Chub mackerel
« on: December 10, 2012, 05:18:39 AM »
I like tuna sang-witches, and have always favored the less expensive "chunk light" type because it has the best flavor. I tried canned chub mackerel and like it a lot. It's got a good flavor, and is a lot cheaper than tuna. The fish are also lower on the food chain, so they probably don't have as much mercury etc in them.

Yes, I have bought the salmon and prefer it for salmon loaf, but not for "tuna salad". I prefer the chub mackerel for "tuna salad". There's a lot of meat in the can, and little or no waste. It's a bit richer than chunk light tuna, but not much.

A "can of tuna" these days is about 50% oil or water. >:(

I just made another batch last night, and adding a little lemon juice is a nice touch. It makes it more tuna-like.
