Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22

I just picked up a Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22, was going to get a 10-22, but got pulled into this one... I think it has become my favorite plinking gun! I've run about 500 rounds through it already and it is a blast to shoot, accurate and much cheaper to shoot than my ARs. I can tell that I have become much more proficient using AR style irons already. It looks and feels just like my other AR's and even has a charging handle unlike some of the other AR-22's. I am so glad I didn't go with the 10-22, I have a Rem 597 anyway so I guess close enough. It has shot all of the bulk stuff that I have tried so far, without a hickup. IMO anyone who has an AR and wants to improve their shooting skills with it should consider a 15-22. My kids can't wait until tomorrow when they will get a chance to runs some ammo through it. My .22LR supply is going to take a hit...

I really like mine.  I've had it over a year now and all the modifying I've done is took off the handle and put on an old Weaver 1.5 X 4.5 scope I had on a Model 788 years ago, a surplus OD web sling, and a flash deflector.  I've put a little over 8 bricks thru it of all different brands and my favorite is the Mini-Max.  It's had a few FTF and FTE, but no major complaints.

I bought one of these a few months ago and love it! The only mods done so far have been to replace the OEM stock with a Magpull STR stock (more comfortable) and add an Ncstar red/green dot scope.

I tried several different types of ammo; the worst being the Winchester "555" brick ammo (would average 2-3 ftf/fte per mag). The best by far has been the "M-22" ammo. Best grouping has been about nickel size at 25 yards, and roughly quarter size at 50 yards.

WARNING . . . due to the high level of enjoyment when shooting the S&W M&P 15-22, it is advised that you purchase stock in your favorite ammunition manufacturer  I guess I've put over 2500 rounds through mine so far - it really is that much fun!

First got to have purchase are 4 or 5 extra magazines so you won't waste valuable shooting time at the range, reloading mags.

Got 5 mags now, found them at Natchez for $15 per. Also have a bushnell TRS-25 coming with a riser so I can co-witness with the Magpul MBUS PTS set that's coming with it. Found some rail covers and a vertical grip. Right now it's wearing my flashlight from my coyote AR just for fun. Gonna pimp this one out because you can do it so cheaply. Also will mount a scope on it some nice calm day so I can see how accurate it really is.  Lots of cool ideas over at the S&W 15-22 forum.

I've had one for a couple of years now. I've tried several optics on it and currently using the irons. It is quick and fun with the Aimpoint, but I'm thinking it's accurate enough to deserve a good compact scope. Maybe a variable in the 2x-7x range. Great practice gun for low cost 3 gun drills. It's my favorite rimfire long gun.
