Pachmayr forend on a 10" octagon
« on: January 29, 2013, 03:27:49 PM »
Found a guy wanting to work up a trade with me on some TC stuff. In a nut shell he wants my 10" .22 hornet octagon and I want his 7-30 waters super 14. BUT I need to come up with a forend for my barrel to go with it. I only have one for another barrel (45/410 10") and must keep it. Cant seem to find any wood ones like I already have (I called ed's today he had nothing).  Pachmayrs website doesnt reall give much info so I figured I would ask the experts. Will a pachmayr forend work with the 10"? or are there other options? or ????

Yes!  IF you have the 10" hanger for the pachmayr forend.
What's my favorite Contender?  The one I'm shooting!

I used Pachy forends on octagons all the time from when first offered until I sold my last octagon a few years ago, and they work just fine on the octagons.   In my case mostly with the custom hanger bars I used on all barrels rather than those from Pachy though (to get the forend off the barrel completely).

With different vintages of factory forends for them prices can vary widely.   Some are more popular than others, some down right rare now days (like those that was a ball stud and snap on/off - the Herrett style getting scarce too).   You might find one used for $10 or less all the way up to $80-$90 depending on which model, grain and condition.

With a hanger bar you can mount just about any forend on them, doesn't have to be one routed for octagon.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus
