what model 336 is this????
« on: February 16, 2004, 05:50:24 AM »
I just saw a used .35 336 Marlin for sale at a price I can afford. But all it says on the barrel is 336 there is no letter such as C, A, CB etc.
It has a plain stock and forearm ..no checkering.
It has a full lenght magazine tube
 It has a gold trigger
Anyone know what this model is??? and what a LNIB price would be considered reasonable??
RSVP 'cause I really want to buy it. Thanx

It is most likely a 336 Carbine. If the price is good and the rifle is good jump on it. I bought a used on last year in good shape with lots of extras for $325.00.

I can get it for $175.00, there are a few light scrathes in the wood but the blueing is 100% and it has a sling swivel stud in the butt stock with another attached to the barrel with a band.
Seems to me it should be worth the $175

You were looking at a model 336 marlin.  In some of the 336's they didn't add a letter to the model.  You can figure out the year of manufacture by subtracting the first 2 numbers in the serial number from 100.

It should also have a flat hammer spur.

thank you both! I'm going back tommorrow and check the date of it. I'm pretty sure I can get the guy down to around $150 if I wave the green in front of him.
Hope I'm not paying too much.
A new 336C in .35 is selling for $240 at the same place...do you think I should just buy that? Thanx

$175 is still a great price for a used one in good shape.
If you can get it for less, even better.
Just do yourself a huge one, and ask if they mind if you remove the bolt and check that and the barrel out.
If it is in good shape, it is likely that the barrel is too, but you want to make sure there is no rust or pitting anywhere.
If all is good, why buy a new one ?

I'm driving over there now! I've got $168.50  in my pocket and if it looks good down the barrel. I'm going to wave that under his nose.
that's all the $ I have on hand

I walked out the door with it for $155 + tax ! Even got him to include a base and rings along with a used  2x7 Redfield wideview scope!
I still do not know which model 336 it is, cause all the barrel has stamped on it is 336...odd that it should have a gold trigger...isn't it?

bore is bright and clean and no scratches or pitting. It has been shot no doubt about it but it was taken care of. Think I'll refinish the stock yet this winter.
Picture? My gosh if I could figure out how to post pictures I could figure out why I can't get registered on the Marlinowners.com site
All I get over there is "sorry this name is taken" regardless of what name I put in.

You got one heck of a deal!!!You NEVER see them around here for that price. I paid $325.00 for mine and it was like new. It came with 400 rounds of new Rem brass, a few boxes of Federal Factory ammo and a few boxes of once fired Federal Brass, Hornady dies, scope base and rings which I took off. I jumped on it. But at that price you did good. Enjoy it and let us know how it shoots.
