Cost to rebarrel a Browning B-78
« on: December 21, 2012, 04:55:30 AM »
Dear Guys,

I was looking at a beautiful B-78 the other day,  but I don't like the caliber (.243 Win.)

Any ideas what it would cost to have a good gunsmith put a new barrel on it in a different cartridge (say, 7mm-08 or .308 Win)?    Since these these are derivative rounds, would it be cheaper to have the existing barrel reamed and re-bored?

  Thanks for all info.

Cheeper to rebore the barrel.  ;) I had a BLR rebarreled a few years ago but I went from .308 to .264 so couldn't rebore. But I think a rebore would be a couple hundred.  ;)
The rebarrel was over 500.

Rebore will run you about $250, a new barrel $500+.  Unless you want a cartridge that you can't do a rebore for I'd say save the money.
