H&R Huntsman breech block source?
« on: January 07, 2013, 12:01:29 PM »
Hello,
I have an H&R Huntsman 12 gauge which will shoot shot and .715 cal. (12 ga) balls.  Can anyone tell me where I can buy a new breech block for this gun?  The block is the countersunk type, that sits a half-inch into the breech, with a primer-cap pin screwed into the middle of it.  To remove the breech block, you need to remove the primer-cap pin and locate the breech plug tool in the two holes on either side of the plug.  For a bit more information, the gun I have has '12 GA' stamped on the left side of the breech, and then an encircled letter 'P'.  The gun's serial number begins with the letters 'AL', if that is any help.
Thanks for any help.

Welcome! You'll find the manual for it in the manual sticky at the top of the page, Numrich may have the breech plug(what you called breech block), the "primer-cap pin" is called a nipple.  ;)

Thanks for the reply Tim, and for reminding me of the proper parts names.  The breech block in the Numrich catalog, however, isn't the same as the one on my 12 ga model.  Mine is countersunk and the upward facing surface (when in the gun) is flat with the nipple hole in the middle and the extractor tool attachment holes on either side of it.

Kurt, the reason I'm interested in another breech plug is because there is some pitting on some of the threads of my existing one.  It is a very small amount and only in one place, so it probably won't affect the function of the gun, but I'm just being fussy in wondering about a new plug.  Most of the ones I see are the type referred to in the Numrich schematics, rather than the one I have.

Thanks.

.....like this one? http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php/topic,248412.msg1099442623.html#msg1099442623

This is the only one they have in stock, depending on the AL serial number on yours, it may well be the right one, give em a call and see if it has the spanner wrench holes.

Hi Tim - yes, the one in the picture is the same as mine, however, f I click the link with the picture of the breech plug, it says - Screw In Type; All Series To AL206821, but my gun's number AL278218.  I guess that if I just make the inquiry and ask for the older screw-in type breech plug, I'll probably find what I'm looking for, or, at least, know if they don't have them for my gun.
Thanks again.

HRHuntsman12,

H&R, Inc. changed over from the screw in type Breech Plug to the knock out plug in early 1973. Any H&R screw in Breech Plug Numrich has is the one you are looking for.
