(Wrong Forum?) Federal .17HMR ammo...
« on: December 27, 2012, 10:08:01 AM »
Just found an excellent deal on .17hmr rounds on midsouth shooters today. I have yet to see Federal ammo till now for the .17
They are 17 grains with the tiny hollowpoints. Has anyone used this ammo? I have been buying Hornady so far for the .17, but this here looks like an excellent deal.

Anyone have any experience with them?

Only since the 17hmr first was made about 10yrs ago, I have a bunch of the CCI TNT Speer on the ammo shelf, same stuff as the Federal,  all 17hmr ammo was made by CCI/Speer in their Lewiston plant at one time, AFAIK still is, just different tip colors on the BTs and head stamps. Federal/Speer/CCI are all basically the same company owned by ATK. My experience with the hollow points is the same as the tests on Varmint Al's site, they penetrate better than the BTs, not so explosive.
