Would you rather reload a revolver or clear a jam in an semi auto . In both cases I think I listed the most common mentioned fault for each when debating the two. Of course there are other pros and cons but lets debate these two. And it's choice not right or wrong.
As for me , reload a small revolver and clear a jam on a large pistol. Size matters .

Seems to me you nterjected size when you didn't want others too? Kinda changs the whole picture. In the context of your original question: I have far more experience with a 1911 than with the S&Ws I own so I'd opted for my .45 ACP.

So when did I say others could not offer the size issue ? For me at least it is very important. When picking a carry gun many things cause the choice to be a certain gun and how well you can load/clear a jam should be at the top of the list . I offered my thoughts . Feel free to do the same.

Anyone who would dismiss  the effects of muscle memory simply has no clue. It goes hand in hand with "if you don't use it you lose it"  and " only perfect practice makes perfect "

I carried a revolver a lot in my youth. But in my Tex- Mex border days I carried 1911 & sigs most of the time. Looking back the only jams that could not be cleared on the spot were with revolvers. IME autos were much easier to clear. Until I started losing strength & feeling in my hands.  ;)

The idea of this topic was to see what people were comfortable  with regard to clearing jams or reloading a revolver. There is really no right answer , as example some may not be able to work a slide or have the energy to run their hand over a stove pipe and knock it out the way.

Ammo type also has a lot to do with if an auto is going to jam.  FMJ round nose will probably feed better than a hollowpoint.  Keeping the auto clean and the feed ramps clean also.  Good ammo vs cheap ammo might fire better.  Someone did a test on 223 ammo.  They shot 5000 rounds each out of the same 4 types of AR's.  They used Federal, Tula, and two other brands.  The Federal all 5000 shot without a hickup.  Tula was the worse out of the 4 brands tested.  It jammed, and was dirty.  I also think it was steel cased.

Shootall,
I believe I know where your comming from with this thread. In your comments it sounds like your neuropathy in your hands is about like mine. I also have it in my legs & feet. Shooting more than a 38 special is painful & I don't have the strength to safely operate a full size auto. I mostly carry a 32 H&R mag now. But am considering trying a government 380 again. Their light enough but of course underpowered.

Guess what I'm saying is I Carry a revolver now because I can manage it better. But I realize if a ejector rod backs out I'm toast. I do have a scandium smith in 22 mag for back-up. My main carry is a sp101 3" 32 mag. I had Alan work it over so its as reliable as anything mechanical can be.

Hope this contributes to what your looking for.  ;)

If an ejector rod backs out, it is due to poor maintenance. In the thousands and thousands of rounds I've personally fired, and witnessed fired, I have never had this happen to me, or anyone else I was instructing. The ejector being "bent" would be a far more reasonable concern for failure. But then again one can equally concern ones self with a bad magazine in the auto category. Personal weapons are "personal". The "what ifs" are endless.

In 20 years of service, carrying and using a 1911A1 in many different environments, the only malfunctions I saw were caused by operator headspace problems...dirty weapon, corroded ammo, dirty magazine.  I fired over 100K rounds in paper-punching matches with NM-level pistols, during that time, as well as duty-related matches such as the old PPC, with no weapon-related problems.

I've fired at least that many rounds out of various non-duty-related revolvers, too many different types to remember quickly, and only had one malfunction...mainspring snapped on an H&R 923 when I cocked it

Carry whatever you feel comfortable with.  Practice with whatever you carry.  Keep it cleaned, tightened, and lubed.  If you're not able check it out yourself, have a qualified smith check it over for level of repair and functionality.  Carry a backup, if you're really concerned.  End of worry.

I carry a Commander .45 for social occasions, but keep a Smith M1917 .45 ACP as the nightstand life-support system. The wife keeps a Charter Pink Lady since she doesn't like semi-autos.

I guess if I am headed to a place that is not a good place and have no choice to drive there, a Glock or 1911 is what I want, a carbine or shotgun is not leagal to carry loaded in my truck, so that's out for going somewhere already loaded. Problem is I like revolvers and have those with me a lot and don't go to bad places usually, even though any place can get bad no matter where you are so I am handycapped already a lot of times. Sometimes my handycap is even bigger those times when I only have a single action or two with me, but at least I have something with me all time. I guess I am one those people who just have to make do with what I have with me, but at least I always have something with me. Usually a double action revolver is always with me no matter what else I have while going somewhere. I do admit a reliable semi auto works out better if things go bonkers, but I like revolvers and usually have those these days. Used to be 1911's all the time for over a decade, I reverted back to revolvers, don't ask me why, there may not be a good reason, except I like them. Guess there doesn't have to be a real good reason for what we have with us, but it's good to always have something no matter what it is. The easiest handgun to shoot quick and accurate at all different ranges at multiple targets for me is a 1911, I think it's because of the trigger pull, but even so, I still reverted back to revolvers for everyday use, no particular reason except I like them and the different types of calibers and ammo I shoot in them. Like what was just said, no matter what you carry, keep it clean and lubed and practice with it, anything you use is better than being caught naked.

Shootall:  if you're asking which I would rather do, my answer is, "Either one is OK with me, for now."
If TEOTWAWKI hits, I'll carry the Commander, openly, with as many mags as I have holders for.
