Can I shoot 40S&W out of a 10mm auto contender barrel  ???

When you compare the two the only diffrence i see is that the 10mm is 0.140" longer.    These numbers came from the book "cartriges of the world"
I have yet been able to shoot a 3 shot sub 1" group at 100 yards ...........on any deer!!!!!!

I don't think so, as those cartridges headspace off the case mouth. Therefore the 40S&W would chamber too deeply, for proper headspacing.

Both these cartridges are designed to headspace on the case mouth, but in a lot of auto pistols the headspacing is actually provided by the extractor hook.  I believe the spring loaded extractor on the Contender would enable you to fire the shorter cartridge without any problems.  I don't believe there would be any risk in giving it a try.  Why you would want to do this is not especially clear to me, however.

Wait!!!! I owned a 10mm that I bought when T/C had their barrel specials on their web site and I bought it for that very reason. It worked fine. I used cast bullet loads and jacketed. It is the same as a 45 acp being fired in a 45 Win. Mag. I shot 40's in my Delta Elite too but was afraid of breaking the extractor so I ONLY used light cast loads in that case. YES, you can shoot 40's in a 10 mm but you may have to play with the load a little. The tighter the 40 fits, the better so don't over crimp and make the loads barrel specific. The extractor in a Contender barrel is enough to hold the case in position for contacting the primer. The same goes for 9mm Luger's in 38 super.

My reason is I was going to get a 40S&W made becouse im able to get alot of ammo for cheep or free..  But if I can pick up a used 10mm i will save a lot of money compared to going custom..

but I wont be reloading ???

I was was thinking if  I had to I could bend the extractor to hold tighter if needed.

I would still get that 10mm because you can use factory ammo but with what degree of success, who knows. I know that reloads work fine. You can always sell it if it's not meeting your expectations.
