rem 7600 carbine 35 whelen
« on: December 30, 2010, 05:14:42 AM »
picked up one of these the other day.  i been collecting rem pumps for years and did not know these existed.  and i am pretty sure it is not a Grice limited run.  if anyone has anyone has any info on these rare guns, let me know.

whelen is on the bottom.  top gun is a Grice limited run 35 remington 7600 carbine.  note the non-monte carlo stock on the whelen compared to the Grice gun and other modern 7600's.

Gun was NIB

Great find. I like the non-monte carlo stock.

The 35whelen is made in the carbine mostly for export to Europe.  The French in particular love that big bore for killing running boar.  Every once in awhile you find one that made its way out of the factory and stayed stateside.  Great find and enjoy.

Heard the 20 guage 870 stock will fit the 7600 , just double check this with remington as I just heard this from some one at their front desk..
The barrel is quick to shorten and recrown and the front site can be reinstalled . So there is the carbine in 08 or 35 Whelen.

It would be nice to see a 35 Rem so chambered , but any thing made in any special run in the USA never gets imported to Canada . I would see one in 35 Remington just about perfect in the thick eastern bush for deer and even black bear .
Maybe with the new powders coming out ( extra 100 FPS)- we could all revisit the 30/30 -35 Rem as well as the 30 and 32 Remington rounds .

For a short while, I owned a 750 carbine in Whelen.  I thought they offered the 7600 carbine in that chambering at the same time.

Did you trade the 750 in because of feeding and unloading issue's? Some guys tell they shot more like minute of Barn door. Think the feeding issue's have been resolved .
Find the 7600 pump in 'o6 can put them in there (MOA) and I would have been pleased with 1 3/4 to 2" groups with the carbine .

It jammed after two or three shots, and nothing I could do would correct it.  I tried Remington factory ammo, as well as other companys', and a number of different handloads (I'm not one who pushes the pressure/velocity envelope.).  I took it back to the gun store and they returned it for repair.  After not hearing anything after 5 months, they refunded my money.

ya my family is pretty sick of me and the whelen carbine.  maybe making them bow as they pass it was a bit too much.  next up is a range report.  got the tallys on the way and i have 5 boxes of shells.

QUESTION:

How is the recoil compared to 7600 in .308?

-  a little more

-  a lot more

-  about the same as 30-06

-  horrific

Thank you.

i won't lie, the recoil is pretty stout.  off the sandbags it almost ejects the shell itself.  quite a bit more than my 760 '06 carbine or my 760 308 rifle.  its not a plinker but its not brutal.  my win 94 timber carbine in 450 marlin is much worse.  and i would have to say my rem 600 in 350 mag is worse as well.

I have several 7600s in 35 whelen & 35 rem.  I purchased this year a 750 carbine in 35 whelen and love it.  It does not like low power loads and handles my high power reloads with Nosler ABs just great and is a tack driver at 200 yards.
