I dreamed about a Model 28 last night.  By far, the most practical revolver ever made.  Armed with a 28, a man is ready for anything.  I'd trade most any gun I have now for a 28.

Mike, the Model 28 has been one of the best .357's S&W ever made. I posted about one that I bought from a friend of mine.  He was a GSP (Georgia State Patrolman) and the Model 28 was the standard service weapon back in the 60's and 70's. He had the barrel cut back to 5" to give it better balance and it did. I have one on my bucket list and will have the barrel cut back like the other one. Good luck finding one.

I have three but they are at the hospital for surgery.
28's are not hard to find and they take cosmetic surgery well.

have never been a S&W fanatic.. However if you pinned me down , for the life of me I dont think I could explain why exactly I am not. I only have one revolver now (sold all my others).  An older Ruger Security-Six. It Functions as my go to night stand revolver. I like the solid construction,  heft and balance,  and trigger pull is not too bad. (perhaps a little heavy).

I miss my Bearcat.

Lots of folks I know were buying Taurus judges. I have always been partial to Smiths so I found a governor and bought it out of meanness I guess. Then I shot the thing and I really like it. It patterns better than the judges I've shot and it just feels better in my hand. So now I'm not partial to smiths I am danged prejudiced towards them    !

Only own 3 S&W handguns, 1 pistol a model 22A and 2 revolvers.  My favorite handgun is my model 696, .44 special that is often my carry gun during cold weather that extends from Oct. thru March here in western NY.  A few years ago I inherited a S&W K-22 Masterpiece .22 revolver with 6" blued barrel.  A first glance it looked like it had been stored at the bottom of a tool box with numerous scratchs, too much rust and just the general appearance of a beat up old paperweight.  After setting in the original box in my safe for a several years, I finally took it to the range one day just to see how it fired.  This is a very fine shooter as the bore remains bright with no damage to the crown.  If I were to use this in league matches, it would hold its own quite nicely.

I have Smiths, and love 'em. I don't reply much on here because I don't know much about them, but this is certainly a good place to learn. It's one of the discussion groups I consistently read.

I had a Model 17 with a 4" barrel that I purchased from a Range the barrel had a bulge in it.  Even with the barrel bulge it was a tack driver.  I never shoudl have sold that gun.

The next in line is the 22A that for some reason only likes CCI Stingers @ $10 a box , but it does shoot them VERY well , so I can't complain too much .

I loved my 22A before I dropped it in the river , I never fired a stinger in it.  I tried a couple of bulk ammos and had stovepipes until I found federal auto match and it never hiccuped after that.
I guess it was accurate, I tremble so bad that I couldn't tell.

I asked S&W about this very topic and was told to use CCI mini mags in my 22A-1? Have, with great success.

No not at all.  Was just a jab. 
It is your gun and your money and you spend it how you want and modify away you want.
I have done some things with different guns that would make a purest cringe.  Hacking, modifying, and painting.

Now---if Les is the puriest, I must be my own puriest--to be honest with my own creativity.
Seeing as how I can't/don't do my own work--welllllll  --I am nothing but a buyer of puriest workmanship.

At S&W they call me a "newbe" ok i'm stilol new to S&W revolvers.
Well i'm new to S&W revolvers mainly because the other manufacturers are constantly discontinuing all the calibers i wanted in revolvers.  Even Taurus is discontinuing there calibers besides colt(handguns) and ruger in calibers/models.  It seems like a mad scramble to get what i want before there gone for good.  I'm into the S&W revolvers in nickel finish when i can get them new.  The grips feel great in my hands too the orginal grips appear to be perfect to me.  Plus there is something about the S&W N Frame balance too.  Overall there made for human hands.

The only way I like my 44 is with the large smooth sided target grips.  The wider grip seems to spread out the recoil in my hand and the "combat" style grips while slim and easy to hide seem to focus that recoil and limits my practice sessions.
I also have smaller hands and need to have the back strap open on the stocks / grips so I can shoot it in double action easier.
But that is why we have so many options of styles and materials.

On my new S&W M24 w/6 1/2" barrel in 44special in nickel of course i purchased the larger S&W Combat grips from the S&W store and removed the smaller S&W grips from the m24.  Now she feels like one of the larger N farme magnums.  There much easier to shoot when they all have the same feel and handling except for the recoil.  My S&W revolvers will only see the standard magnum loads and the lighter leadcast reloads i promise.  I don't want to spread the frames.

M24 is a 44 Special.  I would not do magmum loads but warm specials.  you really do not need magsnums, I did it beeacuse I did not know better way back then.  Also it made sence to have the ability to use both specials and mags depending on what I cna find in the stores.
