I do not like the westboro people, I also dislike the American Nazi party. Some people think the First Amendment applies to only people they like. They want to destroy The Constitution to fit their personal like and dislikes.

The first ammendment not only covers free speech (even when we vehmently disagree with what is being said) but carries 4 other freedoms as well. It used to be that a person had some respect for the dead. Today if you want your 15 minutes of fame you just show your"butt" in public. The first ammendment does allow a person to show their ignorance.
Freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, freedom to assemble, and freedom to petition the government. There is nothing in those 5 that say you can't be a classless moron and add to a grieving families pain and suffering. Personal morals and ethics should be enough to stop that.

Cheesehead. By the same token the families and friends of the dead that is being disrespected should also have the right to stomp the crap out of the punks direspecting their loved ones. Freedon of expression or speech. And no, I don't like the unAmerican nazi party either, or the kluckers for that matter.
If the westboro scum intend to disrupt and disrespect a loved ones funeral in Kentucky they should be prepared for another point of view, covered by the 1st amend.  POWDERMAN.

I'm a little surprised to see folks defending folks like westboro congregation disrupting a funeral. The 1st Amendment is NOT there to protest, and disrupt, a "private occasion" such as a funeral.
westboro, would be better served to protest at the pentagon, or the white house, but the funeral of a loved one, is not what the 1st Amendment is all about. Westboro's type of thought process, doesn't even make any sense.

What positions do you disagree with, apart from the nasty behavior at soldiers' funerals? Seems to me that apart from the funerals... the Westboro Gang's sentiments line up quite nicely with many here.

 A church should support it's community not become part of a side show. Does the 'pastor' at westboro visit the sick in the hospital, does its members organize food drives and give food to the destitute? Does the westboro 'pastor' teach that God loves us all and desires we live upright and Holy lives or does he teach hate?  I can see the fruits of the labors of westboro, frankly I see nothing Godly about them. They desire to hold a headline filled with hate rather than bear a true witness of Christ. I see nothing special about them other than they drive people away from God by their witness.
 
At anytime do you see any of the people at westboro trying to emulate any of the apostles much less Christ? When you do let me know becuase I would like to see it.
There is very little the folks at westboro have in common with my beliefs.
I am against any group that uses hate as its message. I am against any group that advocates killing someone becuase of a different belief or skin color.
 
I am sickened by the way people treat each other. I have seen people beaten becuase they talked differently or spoke a different language or went to the wrong church. Do people not realize one day they will have to stand before the Creator and give account of themselves?
 
By all means let us teach hatred, let us do some name calling. Teach our children to be prejudiced, advocate the killing of innocents, let us forget that we do not need to be upright before God our Creator and do as we please. Let us forget the things we know to be good and right. Let us turn our backs on the teachings of Christ. Let us carry hate to grieving families and cheer when a soldier dies serving his country. Let us forget there is a higher purpose to our self important lives. Let us create our own agenda, God doesn't care what we teach or how we live. We can all do whatever we please whenever we please. (sarcasm of course)
When people call evil, good and good, evil; we should lift up our heads becuase our redemption is drawing closer.
 
You can call the people at westboro a church if that is what you please. You will not see me attend any of their services or stand arm and arm with them.

I do not go to the religion section of GBO and there are alot of sections that I do not attend also.
I know there are those that are afraid of Islam. I know there are some that are afraid of differences between local customs and traditions. I try to tread in areas I am comfortable with myself. I have been to the middle east a few times and have been invited into the homes of citizens there. The hospitality of private families is remarkable. I am probably not the world traveler that some are but for the most part people are the same everywhere (there are a few exceptions of course). 
 
There are some that would espouse violence and desecration of sacred things. I do not. Simply I do not care if someone worships an idol or a false god, it means relatively nothing to me. It is their choice. If asked what I believe I will certainly give an account.
 
My statement about trolling is directed at a few simply put if PM says the sky is blue there is an uproar about everything he posts. The most common defense used is he posts more than everyone else. So what, what you have is free speech in action. Those that troll are excercising that same free speech and if Mr. Greybeard decides enough is enough he certainly takes away that right. (so do a few of the moderators).
 
We should enjoy the opportunity to engage each other in conversation, I am betting sitting on a creek bank with a fishing pole in the shade most of us really don't care about 99% of the politcal or religious reteric on these boards.  I would fish, hunt or ride motorcycles with 99% of the folks I have met here at GBO. Even those who want to drop pork all over the world, those that like an adult beverage or smoke a little of cheech. 
 
I can honestly say I do not want to hunt, fish or ride motorcycles with the members from Alaska. I am simply not tough enough to keep up with them.
