"This guy is just lucky she didn't have a high capacity 9mm. He would have been hit more than 5 times."                                              The recording of a 911 call made during a home invasion in Georgia reveals a chilling scene in which a husband coaches his wife -- home alone with her twin 9-year-old children -- to shoot a determined intruder.
The intruder used a crowbar to bust into the house last Friday and at first intended to rob the suburban Atlanta home in Loganville but shifted his focus to hunting down Melinda Herman and her son and daughter, Walton County investigators told NBC station WXIA in Atlanta.
The family had fled through three locked doors, into a bathroom and then to an upstairs crawl space, but the intruder busted the doors open to stalk the family, police said.Advertise | AdChoices    As the incident transpired, husband Donnie Herman was in Atlanta and had his wife on one phone line and the 911 operator on the other, according to the recording, obtained by WXIA and the Atlanta Journal- Constitution.

“Do you hear him? Is he in the house? He’s in the house,” Donnie Herman says.
“Melinda, if he opens that door, you shoot him, you understand.”
“She has a weapon?” asks the dispatcher. “What type of weapon?”
“She has a .38,” Donnie Herman said.
The 911 operator tells him that officers were on the way.
“She shot him. She’s shooting him, she’s shooting him.”
"OK," the dispatcher responds.
"Shoot 'em again! Shoot 'em!" Donnie Herman yells, later telling the dispatcher “She shot him, a lot.”
Herman tells the dispatcher he heard a lot of screaming. But it was seven agonizing minutes before he found out that his family was OK, WXIA reported.
Melinda Herman told police that she started shooting when the man opened the door to the crawl space. He pleaded with her to stop, but she kept firing until she was out of bullets, she told police. She then fled to a neighbor's house with her children.
The family is still shaken by what happened.
"Just like I told her that night,” Walton County Sheriff’s Capt. Greg Hall told WXIA. “Ya know, there's right and there's wrong and then there's not natural, and it's not natural for people to have to shoot people, so it is going to bother you ..."
The National Rifle Association tweeted a link about the shooting, apparently using it as an example of responsible gun ownership.
And Sheriff Joe Chapman  told The Associated Press that he was proud of the way she handled the incident.
"This lady decided that she wasn't going to be a victim, and I think everyone else looks at this and hopes they have the courage to do what she done," Chapman said Wednesday.
The alleged intruder, identified as Paul Slater, 32, of Atlanta,  was shot five times. He remained at a hospital.
Spokesmen for the Sheriff’s Office and the Walton County prosecutors were not immediately available for comment.

Sometimes the only choice you have is the Bronson approach. Blow the scum away to clean up the neighborhood.

She legal in Ga.  There was another case here where the BG broke in on a 15 year old girl. Thankfully she wasn't harmed, but her mother said they would be buying a gun and getting training for both of their teenagers.

I wonder if she had a snubnose? If she did that means she connected on 5 out of 5 shots, this woman should be commended for shooting so well under stress to protect her family. Even if it was a 6 shooter then 5 out 6 is still extremely impressive.

  • Overkill begins when hair shoots out the antlers.
Good for her protecting herself and family.  Obama says he would pass gun legislation even if it would only save 1 life.  Based on this maybe he should cut our taxes so we would have more money to buy guns to protect ourselves ;)

I watched a video of a TV discussion on this event yesterday. There was some Democrat, anti-gun former Clinton guy, the news lady and a pro gun lady. The Democrat agreed the lady was a hero for saving herself and family. He later said but there is no need for AR type guns and maybe high cap magazines.

http://foxnewsinsider.com/2013/01/10/what-does-the-georgia-moms-shooting-of-a-home-intruder-mean-for-the-gun-control-debate/

Then it hit me:  The lady disabled her attacker but didn't kill him; with 5 shots, some to the face. There have been instances where the bad guy has been hit quite hard but isn't disabled enough to prevent him from doing harm to the victim or police. This would seem to be a perfect argument to have a higher shot capacity and possibly more powerful gun/cartridge. I wish the progun lady would have seen that opportunity to hit the antigun guy with it.

Also, I couldn't help wishing that she had had a carbine AR w 10-20 shot magazine.  Would the Democrat on the show still consider her a hero?  Would he say she shouldn't have had such a gun for self defense?

What if she HAD been hurt even after shooting the thug 5 times - would he argue that she didn't deserve to have a higher shot capacity gun?

I have tended to be willing to consider large cap magazine restrictions as one effort to reduce the mayhem of late - but the more I think about this case, the less certain I am that magazine restrictions or anything else would be useful or wise.

Overall, for her, I'm wishing she had one of those 7,8, or 9? shot 357 with hotter loads and used them all - and no fear of him suing her...... ever.

A democrat will gladly sacrifice adults or children to further their agenda which is total people control.
we know that they have murdered over 54 million babies since 1973.
