hmm, so I am telling tall tails?
I packed it in. With my blood lead level so high, and living in Michigan I could not shoot in winter unless I shot indoors, I gave it up and just continued to shoot matches instead. Between our regular Thursday night indoor shoot and weekend matches that still put me over 10,000 rds a year.
I stopped shooting when I went to Nursing School, then when I got a job I concentrated on my work. When I divorced and moved to Phoenix I got into shooting again. I was able to schedule my work around the regular shoots. Tuesday Night Steel at Rio Salado, Thursday night paper and steel at Ben Avery and weekend USPSA matches at Ben Avery once a month and Rio Salado every weekend. They actually have 4 USPSA clubs using the same range. When my best friend told me she wanted me to go to the IRC in 2000 I said I did not have a revolver. She said "so buy one". I did. A hard chromed heavy (very) barrel K-frame complete with Aimpoint, belt, holster, speed loaders and carry box. Then I bought a clapped out Dillon 1050 in .38 Special. Dillon did a total rebuild for free. We then practiced in earnest. I shot 8,000 rds in the 10 weeks before the 2000 IRC. Having never owned a revolver before I was quite pleased with my fifth place finish. My friend Machelle finished 6th. It was great fun. Our local hero revolver man Vic Pickett finished 2nd, again. Jerry Miculek is FAST.
I also competed in the 2000 USPSA/ IPSC Hemishpere Championship.
Since no one knew me they thought I might be a ringer and I was placed in the Womens Super Squad. I was in total hero worship but I really did not belong there. I did not do well. I was just so hero struck. All of the women shooters I idolized were in my squad.
I have been sidelined with one darn thing after another since then. I did manage to get to the 2004 USPSA Nationals where I managed to crawl home with my tail tucked 'tween my legs having finished 3rd last. Oh the shame.
I had surgery for an obstructed bowel in 2005. Not being a kid anymore I healed slowly. I was gearing up for the 2007 USPSA Nationals when I broke my back, got a MRSA infection in the vertabra which led to 6 fused vertabrae and total disability with severe chronic pain.
So, now I do not shoot so much, as in none since I broke my back.
