shoulda taken a shotgun
« on: January 05, 2013, 07:12:14 PM »

Woke up to about 32 degrees and steady snowfall.  Dropped my oldest son with some friends to cut wood then grabbed the younger one and we toured the tundra and "tree islands" in our snogos.  I didn't expect to see anything but we haven't been out at all with the lack of snow, rain etc etc. HAD to get OUT today.  It was really foggy.  We stumbled on a small flock of ptarmigan but they slipped away, 3rd time for good.  All I had was a snub revolver loaded with mild 38's - not the best for nearly invisible ptarmigan. But it added some excitement to the ride. Sure was glad I took my GPS.  In the fog I got all turned around. With so little snow, the country looks different than I'm used to, and we headed in an unfamiliar direction. We've been having wolf reports around town lately hence the 38 just to have something along in case we found lobo. Well, hopefully it will cool down a bit and we can get out more.  Already noticing a little more daylight in the afternoons - yeah! We'll have to take a shotgun next time, at the least.
