I have had TERRIBLE luck going after coyotes at dusk. With are ultra flat terrain we have here, Coyotes seem to pick us off from 3 counties over when we walk out to out stands.
Yesterday, we wanted to put in some night stands but my friend insisted that we try a dusk stand. Here we are walking out into the middle of a super flat field, wind in our face with a huge grass patch in front of us. Im thinking that all the coyotes have already seen us and are bugging out. The only thing in the wide open field between us and the grass patch is a ditch with no weeds along the edges. We hop in the ditch one facing upwind and the other facing down wind with only our snow camo'd heads and guns clearing the ditch bank.
I start calling and nothing is coming in. 20 minutes go by and nothing is showing up and I'm not really surprised. I go into pup whines. About the second set of whines I see a yote sitting on it's butt at the edge of the grass patch seriously looking back and forth trying to find the distressed pup. I put the crosshairs on it's chest and sent it. Bang/flop. I couldn't believe it worked!!!
Good fur on this female!!!
