Small binoculars.
« on: January 14, 2013, 12:33:10 AM »
When I was young and hunted only in Florida I bought a pair of bushnell custom compact binocs. I used them for years all over the USA. Just the right size & power for me. Then I started buying expensive glass & big heavy glass to help my failing eyesight.  ;) sound familiar?

Well I don't like carrying big heavy glass around so they don't get used much. I'm back in Florida, retired, and decided I want to buy a small, quality pair of binocs to use here on the ranch.

Any suggestions ?

I have a Leupold Mesa 10x23, and they are extremely compact and great optics.

I bought a used  pair of Sworoski 10X25 on eBay.  The factory fixed them for free.  Great deal.

I've had a pair of Nikon Travelites (7X24) I've carried for about 25 years.  These were my "always have with me" binocs.  Got bigger ones that are better, but usually get left in the truck.

One thing about them has always irritated me - the diopter adjustment turns so easy that everytime you stuff them inside your coat or put them in a pocket the adjustment gets turned and you have to readjust when you take them out again.  If/when I buy another pair I will definitely get something with a more secure diopter adjustment setup!

By golly no need to repeat your post :D . Nearly the exact same experience with the same glass for the same amount of time. My diopter does not give me troubles.

Byron,
Not the same as you as I had big glass as well, but I bought a pair of Redfield Compact folding 8X25's around 40 years ago - steep for the time for any binos at something like $325-$350, but excellent glass.   Still have them, still use them more than the big glass I've had over the years just because they are easy to always have along in a shirt pocket or the small belt case I bought for them and the glass is still as good as new models.   Even have a NIB heavy pair of Burris LX 10X42's that are good as glass gets to the tune of $1400 I have never even used.    Always grab the old Redfields instead.    So something similar might be your ticket as well.
