Yugo SKS and the 7.62x39?
« on: February 13, 2004, 06:24:52 PM »
I really want to buy a Yugo SKS. But I dont know a lot about the rifles? Or for that matter the cartridge? So are the Yugo's good rifles? Are they accurate? Does anyone know how many grooves are in the Yugoslavian SKS Model 59/66's barrel? And how good is the 7.62x39? It seems like it would be a damn fun plinking cartridge. How much recoil does it have? What are its limites in range for shooting? And will it blow a Jackrabbit apart? What kind of damage will it do from small game to big game? (rabbits to deer) Would it put a deer down cleanly within about 100 yards? Has anyone ever delt with CenterFire Systems? They seem like a good company to buy from, but are they? Thanks for the info. If i left anything out that you think might be important please tell me.
The 17 HMR is a hell of a round!!!

The 7.62x39 round is an awesome round and is ok for animals up to the size of deer.  You can't beat the prices of the ammo too.  AIM SURPLUS has free shipping besides dropping the prices on them too.  The only draw back with a yugo is the barrel isn't chrome lined like the other sks's.  Like any other gun with corrosive ammo we just have to clean the barrel good.
I'm sure it will be one of your favorite fun plinkers!!!!     BigBill

I am collecting rifles that shoot the same rounds so I ain't gotta buy a bunch of different calibers. 7.62x39 is an awesome round. Got a Romanian SAR-1 AK...a Bulgarian SLR101S AK...and a Yugo SKS that all shoot that round. Then 3 Russian Mosins that shoot the 7.62x54r round!  8)
