« on: February 18, 2004, 02:57:48 PM »
Hey guys my contender won't fire when i squeeze the trigger, the hammer falls and hits the primer in the shell but it won't set it off, feels like the hammer is not hitting hard enough,i tried a couple different kinds of ammo still doing the same,is there any kind of adjustment i can do to make the hammer hit harder or should i replace the hammer spring or?? i figured someone here could help me figure this out..thanks in advance, mixer

What caliber is it? I've heard 35 Rem barrels can be prone to misfires.

Hammer spring

The older Contenders had a double loop hammer spring that was made out of two paralle bent wires of small diameter . THey , TC , replaced that spring with a much larger diameter single spring a few years later. The old springs also seemed to take a set rether easily . So look at your hammer spring if it is the single wire you probably have an ammo problem. Like the other person said , what caliber ? I have a batch of 30 carbine ammo that got a little crimp and will miss fire most of the time becaues they seat against the case mouth. I am sure you can do simular things with a bottle necked case but have not had that occur. Good luck.

The barrel is a 14'' .223 factory contender barrel,i've tried two different tipes of ammo Winchester white box and some wolf i had laying arround and it misfired with both, the hammer spring is a single wire spring,i put 200 rnds thru this barrel and no problems until this past weekend,i'm going to call TC tomarrow and get a new hammer spring coming, any one have any other ideas? Thanks, mixer
