load for Axis 22-250
« on: January 14, 2013, 10:43:56 AM »
A friend of mine just bought a Savage Axis in 22-250, 1in12" twist. He would like me to load some rounds for him. Does anyone have a good starting load and advice as to bullet weight etc. for this rifle ? He wants to use the rifle for Coyote control. I could use my reloading manual, but I thought maybe someone has a pet load that they wouldn't mind sharing. Thanks in advance.

Looks like your're gonna hafta open some manuals after all.  You see there are a plethora of powders that work well in the Varminter as well as a large number of different bullets.  Now if you're just wanting a pat answer, most around here like myself just won't do it and for very good reason.  If you have never loaded for this round you may want to look at a Hodgdon manual and read up on why H380 got the designation it has for a start.

BTW loading for someone else is usually not a good idea, but it's your choice.

+1 on the h380  for the 22-250   50-55 grain bullets are  always a good choice with the 22-250

I don't reload for anyone except my wife and myself.  I'll sit down and help anyone learn to do it themselves.

I don't mind opening manuals, just thought someone with a savage axis 22-250 had a pet load that shot well in it they wouldn't mind sharing. I understand perfectly well why someone would not load for anyone but themselves, I am usually like this. But I was prevailed upon, so the only way I agreed to load for this rifle is that my friend and I sit down and do it together. I load for my own 22-250's. Thanks for help/advice. I didn't mean to put anyone on the spot. Ron...
