.45ACP Night Guard
« on: December 27, 2012, 12:49:29 PM »
Does anybody have any experience with the .45ACP Night Guard Revolver?

I like the idea of a .45ACP revolver, since I have plenty of ACP ammo.

I have some questions, that I hope you guys can answer, because there is no info on the S&W website.

 1. Do I need special Moon Clips? The ones I see at Midway are for the S&W 625, and Colt 1917.  There appear to be different clips for the governor.

2. Can .45 Auto rim ammo be used in the pistol.

Thanks in advance.

I have no experience with the Night Guard.  Another site I visited said they used the same moon clip as the other Smiths.  I know that my Gov and 1917 use the same one.  Check out the S&W website?

I'd say, if you get one, stick with the ACP load...I've found that AutoRim cases are awfully expensive.  The last show I went to, clips were $1 each and I bought a handful; they make dandy "speedloaders".  An ammo dealer there had one box of  AutoRim loads and wanted $45 for it.

Sometimes Midway uses generic pictures.

Thanks Reliquary.

Ultimately I went with the 325 Thunder Ranch over the NightGuard. It just felt better in my hand.

I ordered some more moon clips, that will fit S&W 1917 and S&W 25's. I imagine that they will work.  I found nothing in the manual that indicated that special moon clips were needed.

The 45 Auto Rim brass will work in your revolver and is my favorite way to load mine.  Starline has 45 Auto Rim brass available right now if you need it.  Beats playing with moon clips.
