New level of crazy
« on: January 17, 2013, 11:54:55 AM »
I bought a box of these Z-Max bullets back in Sept for $58.03 from Midsouth.  The current bid is $205 plus shipping.:o  This is nuts.

Everyone is in AR panic mode , if its anything in a 223 , someone will snap it up just because they think the " sky is falling " saw the same thing 4 years ago , remember ?

This seems way worse than 4 years ago :(   Stop by your local gun shop and tell us what you see for yourself.  I just got off the phone with a buddy and a shop he just went into was all but wiped out.  It's not just 223 stuff.  Check out any online retailer in addition to local suppliers.  Stop by any gun show and they have record crowds.  No back orders and no supply hence the additional panic.  This is very sad to see.

Keep your fingers crossed for the country!

I don't think we have seen anything like what is going on now.  I understand the 223 crazy, but I don't get the run on 22LR or primers or powder.  Yesterday a box of 22LR Remington Golden that I bought for $17.98 at Dick's Sporting goods a few months ago sold on Gunbroker for over $70.  Bricks of 22LR cheapo plinking stuff I bought 20 years ago for $10 are selling for $50 plus.  My local mom and pop gun shop said they cannot get powder or primers and are limiting customers to 200 primers and 1 pound of powder, one box of ammo per customer.  I agree this is stupid and hysterical.  It's the level of stupid and hysterical that is troubling to me.

A couple of thoughts here..  one is that this is business, pure and simple driven by market fears.  Businesses will be resupplied and the panic buying will slow to a acceptable balance between supply and demand and except in ny, no rights will be infringed or massive confiscation programs ensue.

Another view is of guns as a representation of the relative value of marketable commodities and the panic buying is a indication of the future of the market system (and society in general) and the picture is bleak.  Here portends another economic and financial depression worse than the depression of the 30s.  Don't be fooled, what has happened to the economy in the last couple of years is absolutely nothing like the Great Depression and any attempts to link the two are, I believe, simply a diversion.  I believe there will be a depression, a terrible depression that may include deep civil unrest, which will be declared a crisis that the democrats would loathe to let go to waste, and possibly followed by another war, and this does not include violent civil conflict here; but then things will get better and gun ownership is a given, maybe even a necessity but at least there won't be any arguement over it......

I don't think gun ownership will ever be a given, and there will always be arguements over it as long as the Democrats (socialist) are around. They want people control--they feel that the public is too stupid to own guns, and even too stupid to vote--they aren't all wrong--just look at what was reelected last November.
That said--the present condition will pass until the next time. Then it will start all over again--this will be a on going cycle I think, with each time it happens--more and more people will "stock up". If a republican gets elected the next time around things will simmer down for awhile and if after that another demo gets elected then the run will be on again. This will only change when the democrats get away from being so far to the left---I don't know how or when it will happen.

So the debate goes on...As for me--each time this happens I always seem to be on the short side in the small pistol primer supply catagory. I do most of my reloading in the winter months, and as of today I am down to about 200 small pistol primers. That will just about do me this time and I will wait until latter this comming summer to stock up--but only to the tune of about 2000 or so.

Good luck folks

The democrats just filed a bill in congress to outlaw all internet ammo sales. That will undoubtedly include reloading components such as power and primers. Hopefully it will fail to pass, but who knows.

As bad as that may sound , there is an up side , we may have to take a few more to your local shop not just sit on our butts and type / click a mouse , yet the $$s will be back in the local economy through the local dealers and all the eggs woln't be in the same basket .

one of my suppliers who strictly does milsurp powder/cases/bullets who has always for the last 20 years had powder in stock now has none.  he sells strictly in 8lb jugs and primers by the 1000's  if you arent buying big you arent buying there.

I called to see if he was open because I wanted some 846, Im running low.
he was startled and said you didnt call me back the other day, I saved you a jug  but when you didnt call back it went out the door.
I asked what else he had and he said NOTHING,  what do you mean nothing  he replied it has all sold powder primers hulls bullets I have no stock left every item in the shop has sold aside from a few firearms that noone wants.  All of it I asked?  yes everything including the 50bmg stuff ive been trying to move for 5 years its all gone. people are buying stuff thats only a little faster than charcoal, that I thought I would never be rid of. he said he is going to close up till he can get resupplied.  if he can get supplies that is . his distributor has nothing on hand either..

crazy stuff.

Gun Show today in town, damn few black guns for sale because guy's just didn't have them.

Pistol sales was sky-high, must have seen a Dozen or more buyers in the two hours I was there. Magazines folks wanted where around the $30 mark and happily folks where walking away from the traders that wanted more $$.

I didn't really see allot of price gouging at all, stuff was higher than a year ago, but so is everything,,,

Nothing there for me, I was looking for loading equipment and bullet casting molds, there just wasn't anything there I didn't have.

Everything 223, 308, 9mm, 45 was none existant.
found elsewhere

four years ago we did not have 23 executive orders pending and an emotionally distraught urban / suburban electorate that are in panic mode over their children. Those soccer moms who need the security of a Hummer to take the little ones to school are puckered majorly and this is too big a crisis to waste. I was looking for powder the last few days and the first 4 shops I called within a 35 mile radius were down to almost nothing. They had a few hundred primers each, and a few pounds of odds and ends powders. I think that sends a loud and clear message to Washington in and of itself, they have people paying attention and I am sure the significance does not escape them. I hope the speculators get caught, if nothing major happens there will be a glut of resale in a year or so and things will get cheap for awhile. At least I hope that is what happens :-\ I am looking at a lot of reduced loads, cast loads, that take a lot less powder. I dont use semi-autos, so there is no worry about having to cycle the action. Most of my loads will load at least 200 to the pound, and many 350  and up. I don't think I will worry that much.

I see were that could be an issue , but think how many small mom and pop shops just went away when Midway & Midsouth and others came along though ?

It's getting worse.  As tobster pointed out on another thread take a minute to look at 223 dies on ebay.
