First Glock!!! Model 22 Gen 4
« on: January 23, 2013, 02:18:51 PM »
I got a good deal on a Glock 22 Gen4 that was slightly used, has night sights already installed.  I've shot it about 50 or 60 times, and I'm very well pleased!

I have read a few posts around the "net" about using cast lead bullets in a Glock - some say don't, some say go ahead.  So I decided to go ahead and use cast bullets in mine!  I loaded a Lee 155 grain semi-wadcutter with 6gr. of Unique.  It shoots more accurately with cast lead than factory loads and jacketed handloads!

I'll keep a check for lead fouling, but so far - so good!  Now I'm thinking about that creepy trigger pull.  Any suggestions?

Get a "Glockworx" 2.5# connector, and extra power trigger return spring, along with a "Lone Wolf Ultimate Over Travel Stop", polish all the contact spots with "Flitz". That will give you a nice (for a Glock) 3.5# pull with a relatively clean break, short reset, and very minimum over travel. Stay away from the reduced power striker spring to keep it reliable, and you're good to go.

I got all the parts as a package deal, so I installed a Ghost 3.5 connector, added a performance trigger return spring, safety spring.  While I had it apart, I polished the metal parts with some metal polish and a Dremel tool with a cotton wheel.  I had to leave out the sear spring, the trigger wouldn't return to it's safe position, so I reinstalled the factory spring.  It's shooting really nice now with a clean break and a gentle trigger pull.

Thanks for the help!

Keep us posted on the cast bullet thing. Dee might can add some insight on that.

I haven't had any trouble with the cast bullets so.far. After I shoot I just take it apart and give the barrel a good scrub with a bore brush and a tight cleaning patch.

I have.found some information on the web about Glocks  being able to fire without being in full battery. If the cast bullets are not properly sized, the cartridge may not chamber completely, thus causing a problem

Thats interesting, will have to do some research there. col is probably a a big concern in any semi auto loader. Most of my reloading for hand gun has been revolver, and that was only a problem for me if the cylinder would not close. Never really had that problem much.

If you look at the accumulation of tolerances in chamber dimensions and case length, (pistol cases) you might find it hard to believe that case length is a major player in head spacing.  ie a case length at minimum length, in a max length chamber (Both within SAMMI specs) cannot head space on the case mouth. It could be argued that the extractor holding the case head against the breech face is the major player in head spacing. Check the chamber and case specs and draw your own conclusions.
And yes, Glocks can fire out of battery. It can be caused by a weak recoil spring, out of spec ammo, dirty chamber, and likely other factors. If you have a misfire and see an off center firing pin strike, it might be a good time to check out the above factors.
Haven't converted the 21 to 10mm, so can't speak to that.
