The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said the 33-year-old mother and her 6-year-old son were home alone at 9:30 p.m. when she heard someone breaking in through the window — turns out three bad guys with masks on were making their way in.
That is when the woman grabbed her gun. Investigators said she pulled the trigger hitting one suspect in the stomach.
After that deputies said there was a scuffle between mother and one of the other suspects. They stole her gun and took off.
The wounded suspect was sent to the Texas Medical Center in critical condition.
Now the rest of the neighborhood, which usually does not see this kind of crime, is on alert.
One neighbor who has lived there for 30 years, Cliff Purvis, 79, said it is the kind of community where you can leave your door unlocked.
But now, he and his neighbors have to think twice about that.
“Everyone was out on the front porch seeing what was going on. House lights on everywhere and people looking out the window,” Chase Tolleson, a neighbor, said.
Investigators are wondering whether the suspects were after the family’s small business, Dogs Gone Pet Resort or something else.
“Nothing ever happens here. One way in, same way out. People don’t, fool around with a place like this,” Purvis said.
