Holster Question

I was going to order a holster for my 1911 from a company called Tagua but I ran across a diferant one that I think is a better holster. Have any of you heard of Gould & Goodrich? I checked out their home page and they make holsters and leather goods for law enforcement. The stuff is made from top grain vegetable tanned leather. They are advertised as the finest leather holsters in the world. Don't know about that but I got a good deal on one, their top of the line model, off Ebay so I guess I'll see. Just was wondering if anybody has heard of them or had any experience with one of their holsters?

I have heard of them.
Similar to Galco, Bianchi, Safariland, Tripple K. 
They seemed a little too formal to me.  The ones above seem to be a work belt and the Gould & Goodrich seems to be a dress belt.

Thanks, here's the holster I bought. Took the pic off their site. It lists for  $68 and my winning bid on Ebay was $38. Im hoping I got a good deal

Yours looks great also and ya got it for about half of what I paid. The Galco is very snug no retention strap needed.

I have an open top holster for one of my small sigs.
the barell is too short and I am afraid that it will fall out when running from stage to stage.
I have stuck a longer barreled auto into the same holster as it seems to be a 1911 sized holster just molded to the P229. and it fits snug and the center of gravity changed and holds the gun in better.  I since purchased a thumb break holster for my 229.

My favorite holster maker is a Bianchi and has been for many many years...  I have about a doz different models, I have two favorite 1911 holsters, one is a #4 and #111 Cyclone.

Here is my #1 favorite, the #4. It holds tight to my side, keeps the butt pulled in and with the re enforcement stays open after the draw for easy re insertion.  I see them form time to time on Ebay. As a matter of fact, I just grabbed one for my pop.



This is a Cyclone #111, I lent mine to a aquaintance...along with explicit warning... NOT TO LOOSE IT!!  Well, he did and worse yet, denies my ever lending it to him.. SO Ebay to the rescue...

I'll admit that carrying locked and cocked is a tiny problem. I myself can get use to it but my wife sees that cocked hammer and freaks. Sooooo retention strap to the rescue. I convinced her that with it between the hammer and firing pin, even should the other two safeties mysteriously fail, it's still safe. But truly, another reason I wanted a retention strap is actualy two reasons. 1) with a full sized 1911, when sitting the longer barrel sometimes causes it to get pushed up and partialy out of the holster 2) I often ride an ATV over rough terain and have had my 9mm once work it's way out of my open top holster. Nothing was hurt luckily but definately something I intend to not ever let happen again.

There are three safeties in the 1911.
One is the manual lever that locks the hammer in place.
two is the grip safety
three is a little circle that when the trigger is pulled it pushes up on it and frees the firing pin.
