Citizen Soldier
« on: January 25, 2013, 03:11:22 AM »
This was the name of a little book that came out back in the 80's or a bit before. It had advice on how to prepare for the  war or self defense if there ever was a time that one might come to where you might live. It did not express any claim that one would come . It only offered advice on what to have on hand and in many cases how you would use the items. It went into communication .The use of cells to prevent infomation from getting out if I remember correctly. It also offered tatics. In this time of debate about guns in our country it seems some advice offered in the book might be worth discussing. First the rifle was the best choice ( and a bolt action with iron sights would be a good choice) and shotgun a far second. All should have a handgun if possible. 250 rounds min for long gun and 50 for handgun . Carry more riffle ammo if possible. Information was as important as armed resistance and should be structured to get info to those in command as fast as pratical. Steal what you need from the enemy. Attack the enemy with hit and run tatics . It was interesting that it was noted to never fire more than a few shots then run. On thing was to set up a cross fire , one she shoot and run when the enemy returned fire then the other team open up and run. I guess it was hoped the enemy would try to hide from the first shooters exposing themselves to the second team of shooters but the passage offers the type info the book offers. The book went on to discuss other aspects of the citizen turn soldier . I don't have the book and only remember parts at this late date . Maybe others had a chance to read it. It was good in that it was not anti govt. but more along the lines of surviving until the legal govt. could come to the aid of the citizens. I can't remember if it was in this book or another but one warning should be mentioned is if and when such an event happens those who broke the laws will have to pay for their crimes .
In this time of our history we are once more debating the 2nd amnd. Should we not support the 2nd in terms of giving the citizen soldier every advantage we can and not restrict him to the point he will have no effect ? The 2nd is not about policing the criminal or mentaly ill its about protecting life , liberty and freedoms . We need to keep those debating on track. But then there would be no debate would it.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Just what you mentioned would come in handy,,, but others should chime in with more ideas.

The greatest enemy we face these days is our own government and I doubt any book is going to tell us how to battle the most malevolent and destructive threat to the survival of our country anyone could ever imagine.

A buddy and myself made a pact that if it ever came to it that we would leave our homes and head for the remotes of where ever rather then put our families in harms way if possible.
We discussed what we would need to survive and what we would need to take with us.
Anything we didn't have we could find, make or steal.
Of course you would need some form of firearms.
We would both carry a couple of handguns.
Two revolvers each.
A 45 colt and a 357, that way we could share ammo. .
Rifle would be my 30-30 trapper lever with open sights.
A short 870 12 ga pump with extended mag.
If room maybe a very short 22 rifle.
The reason for these guns is they are very dependable, come in short/light versions, ammo doesn't take up a lot of room except the 12 ga which would be in bandoleers and the ammo could be found just about anywhere you went should you run low.
We both know how to live off the land and we get along like brothers so extended time together wouldn't be a problem.
We like mostly the same things so that makes for easy sharing.
When the going got rough I know that he is the only one I would trust my life with and I would do the same for him with out asking!
Not even my own family could I say that about and the same goes for him.
He is not that close to his family and has no kids so for him it would be just his wife to worry about.
I, on the other hand have a very close family and yes it would be very hard to leave them but for their safety I would have no second thoughts.
You will do what you have to when the time comes.
I am sure others feel the same way and some just talk the talk.
Think hard about what I have posted.
Especially about the guns and ammo you would take.
They need to be light, smallish and simple.
I feel we have made a very good decision in our choice of weapons.
Armed with these guns by two devoted gun people that know how to use and work on them would make for a very formidable team.
We didn't come up with this pact overnight.
We thought long and hard over it before we made our choice.
We both believe in our CONSTITUTION and what it stands for.
Our founding fathers faced many of the same choices and we have history to show us what they did.
There are still a few of us left that believe "FREEDOM ISN'T FREE BUT IT IS WORTH FIGHTING FOR"!!!

That being said, I will leave you with the following words:

"THE TREE OF LIBERTY FROM TIME TO TIME MUST BE REFRESHED WITH THE BLOOD OF PATRIOTS AND TYRANTS".
THOMAS JEFFERSON

That my two young sons may never have to know the horrors of war.
I will stand for your rights as my forefathers did before me!
My thanks to those who have, are and will stand for mine!
To those in the military, I salute you!

I saw this written somewhere, maybe it was here on GBO. I call it a SHTF prayer.

Lord, make me fast and accurate. Let my aim be true and my hand faster than those who would seek to destroy me. Grant me victory over my foes and those that wish to do harm to me and mine. Let not my last thought be “If only I had my gun”; and Lord if today is truly the day that You call me home, let me die in a pile of brass.

When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced. Live your life so that when you die the world cries and you rejoice.

The tactics you cited are kind of a conglomeration taken from "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu, Ho Chi Minh's teachings on waging guerilla war, and general small unit tactics taught by most militaries.
Sounds like an interesting book, but perhaps more about fighting an invading force rather than the problem we have now of radicals trying to take over our country from within.

I may be wrong, but I firmly believe the founding fathers put the second amendment in the Bill of Rights more for the purpose of protecting ourselves from our own corrupt government, rather than just for repelling invaders.

Now that I like.
Only wish I had more room on my avatar to add that quote to my bylines.

The Checens played hell on Russian troops with the mighty 22lr. They used plastic soda bottles as a supressor. They would only shoot for head or groin areas.

If I were ever to be fighting armed invaders I would not want the fight to be close to my home. I would use pungy sticks and any other nasty thing to hurt pursuers. The advantage of the 22 lr is they are cheap, ammo is cheap and bad 22 is still lethal. Think of making only1 or 2 shots then moving. Don't be afraid to toss the 22 and ammo if needed. Do not stand up and "John Wayne" it. The idea is to make the zombie horde expend resources and to dishearten them. The model citizen by day and the SMART fifth columnist by night. Take lessons from the America Indian, Viet Cong and any other guerilla fighters you can read about.

Special Forces teams are so effective becuase they don't advertise, they are committed, they don't like to hang around and pay lookie lou. They hit and fade. They are smart and self dsciplined in the field. Getting caught means getting killed or worse.

ENEMY IS ENEMY IMHO. When a group decides to stand their ground and use tatics that favor them does it really matter who the enemy really is ?
