You'll like the .223.  Northkid's one of the good guys.  Don't stand around waiting to buy ammo....load your own.  Took me most of my life to learn that fact of life. ::)

Hodgen puts out a magazine type manual every year.  In that they list a factory duplication load for Winchester cartridges.  Using Winchester cases, primers, and powder, with a 55gr bullet.  I have found that my .223 Ultra shoots that load real well.  Can't remember the exact weight of the powder charge off the top of my head at the moment, I'm not at home to look it up.  But my TCR, Mini-14s, and two Handis shoot this load.  My hunting partner shoots an AR and his gun shoots my loads well also.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

yeah Pete I know I need to get back into reloading Iused to reload for several of my guns but lost all reloading equip in a house fire several years ago and havent replaced it yet.but that said I was looking on line at several different sites and primers and 22cal bullets are almost as scarce as loaded ammunition.

This will vary from place to place and over time, but the last recent 2 gun shows I went to had some 380 and 9mm ammo and 22 cal bullets, inc the 50-55gr., all fairly priced.
No primers though.
Get the reloading set anyway, and stock up on some powder and primers as you find them; buying factory ammo will NEVER be economical over building your own.

If you do start to reload (or for you visitors)... try CFE-223 powder... we've been working with it for a couple months and all I have to say is, "WOW!" It is shooting our most accurate groups @ 150 fps+ over our Varget, H4895 or H322 .223 Rem loads with Hornady 55 V-Max... luvin' it! We are also using it in .243, 7mm-08 and .308 with excellent results.

Hoytcanon: did you have to do any thing special?

I've read on other sights that CFE is not turning out to be very accurate in pretty much any cartridge.

good to hear you are making it work.

as a technology, it sounds like a great idea.

not much use for it in cast bullet shooting though.
