loose barrel fit
« on: January 31, 2013, 02:30:52 PM »
Hi, I have a 257 Raptor barrel from Gary Reeder that I bought over a year ago that shoots great when I do. My problem is, I recently noticed the barrel fits loose to the point you can hear and feel it if you hold the grip and shake it hard up and down. I tried the locking lugs from three other barrels and the same thing. Then I tried the lugs from this barrel on the other ones and they all lockup tight. The only thing I can think of is the slot where the lugs slide into is slightly oversized. There seems to be a very slight difference in play up and down. I size my brass to where it locks up tight and maybe that is why I haven't noticed it before, but empty it is loose. Is there any fix for this short of sending it back to Gary after more than a year? I think custum sized lugs would take care of it but not sure if that is an option. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try a different barrel pin where the barrel mounts to the frame .

I would size them as they are allot of size differences .

This will also change the barrel lock up and head space off the frame .

The hinge pin fits to the point it needs to be tapped in the barrel so the only thing left that I can think of is the locking lug slot.
