Howdy pards,
How about another big log on the fire?

What's your favorite cartridge for CAS?  Do you shoot it exclusively?

For me, I think the 38-40 is just the berries.  I like the look, the lines and the performance.  But I have decided to only own real period guns in that cartridge, so I am without a single one.  :)

So for now, I shoot 45LC, 38SP and 44MG.

I didn't know that they made a pistol cartridge other than 45 Colt!!!!
I do however wish my rifle was 44-40!!

45 Colt--sometimes called 45 Long Colt to distinguish it from the Schofield cartridges.

25 grains of Black Powder, wrapped in nitrated paper, with a .454 lead ball.  This is my ultimate cartridge.  I had high hopes Palmetto would follow their Colt Root revolver with a Colt Revolving Rifle.  I am still hoping.

Oops, forgot the second part--45 Colt in both pistols and rifle.  Can't quite seem to figure out how to shot it in the shotgun

I have been shooting 45 Colt in rifle and pistol, 2004 I hope to master these new 1860 Armys 44 cap n ball shooters.
I wish I had gone with 44-40 because of my bp addiction, what was the question?

Hold the barrel level and then shoot uphill, or just shim them boolits till they hold tight.

I started with a pair of AWA's in .44 spl, my favorite cartridge.  I never had a .45 that shot worth a hoot, until now.  I fell upon a Hartford in .45colt, cheap.  This gun is a great shooter, and it is quickly becoming my favorite gun and cartridge.  So it looks like I may be switching!  Damn, I've been 44 Man for so long, no one will know me if I change!    I guess I'll just have to shoot the .45 and lie about it!  44 Man

.32-20 WCF.  It is the most underrated ctg used in SASS.  It is a true .32 Magnum.  I shoot 115 gr Lyman 311008 at 980 fps in the revolvers and the same load in my 1873 Uberti 24" rifle.  It is easy to hit targets at longer ranges because of it's flat trjectory and high degree of accuracy.  It also drops knockdowns as effectively as many .45 loads I have seen.

I also have .45 Colt revolvers and would shoot them in matches if it weren't for Arthritis in my hands.  I needed a lower recoiling set of main match guns and the .32-20 was chosen because it is a classic caliber.

I also shoot .44 Remmies by Uberti and with a 24 gr FFFG Goex load, t he recoil is tolerable.

Two Navy Arms Schofields in 45 Colt and a Winchester 92 the same.  I have been toying with 41 Long Colt as I have an Army Special in that caliber and am toying with getting one of those Rugers in 40 S&W and having it rebored or just coughing up $1000 for a US Firearms SAA in 41.
Just love excuses to load and shoot obscure calibers.

Stainless 5 1/2" RVs, and 1894 Marlin, all in .44 Mag.  Shoot 200 gr rnfp over 5 gr Titegroup.  For long range pistol cartridge rifle I shoot my grandpa's old M92 Win rifle (24" octagon barrel) in .38-40.  Either a Rossi coach gun (w/hammers) or a hammerless Stevens 5100 single trigger, both in 12 ga.

Texanna shoots 5 1/2" RVs (blue), and 1894 Marlin, all in .357 Mag (158 rnfp over 4 gr Titegroup), and a 20 ga Fox Mdl "B" double.

I shoot Modern because I'm so cheap I got a couple of Ruger Convertibles (and a Seabring convertible, but that doesn't count) so I could practice with 9mm stuff. It shoots like a .38 with the 9mm, so it's not like the full house .357 loads. (But I LOVE the .357 the best!)

So could you get any LESS authentic than a 9mm SA revolver?

When I started I already had a rifle in 45 colt. So everything I now shoot is 45 colt. However, had I done a little more research before I started shooting, 44wcf would been my ticket.
