My wife's father passed away a few years ago.

Today Her step mom called from Texas.  She has started cleaning out some of his personal items. She asked if I would like his Zane Grey hard covers. He had collected about 35 Walter J. Black editions, and about 30 Louis L'Amour paperbacks.

I told her heck yes and would reimburse her for the shipping costs.

She is going to box 'em up and send them to me. I think my wife will like having her fathers collection in the house as well.

"Haunted Mesa" was good, too. I really enjoyed "Last of the Breed," also. I have to admit I don't get into formula fiction much, but it would be neat to have the collection. My wife's dad gave us his clergy library before he died, mainly "The Pulpit Commentary," but there's a 23 volume set of the classics in leather binding.  My own dad made book, but I don't think that's the same as reading...   ::)

I love Zane Grey, I have read half or more of his, so if you ever decide you want to move them ::) let me know, I would sure pay shipping. I have about 8-10 I have picked up at estate or yard sales. My favorites are Riders of the Purple Sage and Spirit of the Border. My advice, read them all.......

I bet you guys would enjoy reading some of the books written by Ben K. Green. He was a cowboy, horse/mule trader in Texas during the 30's. HORSE TRADIN and WILD COW TALES are a couple of the titles.

I've read all of Louis's westerns. Big fight, hero gets the girl. Good stuff.

Whenever I hear Zane Grey's name mentioned, I can't help but think of the stories Elmer Keith tells in his book HELL, I WAS THERE! about taking Grey and his party on a pack trip. He tells of a lot of situations that took place during the trip and how Zane Grey paid him with a bad check upon their return.

I love reading L'Amours books.  They're all essentially the same w/ the exception of The Haunted Mesa, Fair Blows the Wind, and The Walking Drum.  Those were consequently my favorites.

I haven't read the book about L'Amour himself yet but I do imagine it would be facinating.  He led an interesting life.
I'm voting 3rd party in this election by writing in Jesus Christ for president.  Sadly even if this were an option most of you would still vote Republican because "It's a two party system."
