Homemade Lube Recipes?
« on: January 01, 2003, 05:20:56 PM »
Anyone have a lube that seems to work better than others?

So far I've gotten good performance from toliet seals and crisco mixed 50/50.  The only time I had any problem with it was the one time I tried to use a grease cookie in a 357 and the temp got to 98 degrees.  Along toward the end of the match, I could tell that the powder was starting to wick pretty fast and had two missfires on the last stage.  I use the cheap seals, not the fortified ones, I know that they used to be bees wax, but I'm told by some, that I'm not sure know any more about it than I, that it is now parrafin and mineral oil.  I intend to try some bee's wax from a bee keeper supply sometime, but I'm hard pressed to change from what's working so well for me.  Doggone, what's the fun in that? If it's working, there's gotta be a way to improve on it!

:D   Butlerford45.  I have been looking at yer post and its a MURPHYS OIL SOAP kinda mix.  YUK...YUK...  Well at any rate I am using 50 percent bees wax.  Then 25 percent murphys oil soap, and 25percent pure neetsoot oil  NOT THE NEETSFOOT COMPOUND.  I have been using it as a cookie, and also for my single shot bp rifles.  It works as good as SPG,at least in my opinion.  I use a alance scal to get the amount rite in the mixture.  Bees wax on one side of the scale, and then two foam cups onna other.,  I fill the cups a little bit until they are equal and the scale is in balance.  King

Marsh, I think we're talking a different dipping.  A while back, I was trying to get enough lube for a 357 to get through a rifle with out having to use a lube cookie.  Someone suggested dipping the exposed lead in a completed round then letting it harden.  Well I tried it ONCE.  I get the idea your talking avout dipping the bullet before loading?
