Used Savage 110 price check
« on: June 07, 2013, 03:15:49 AM »
I was in town yesterday and managed to swing by a hock shop before it closed.  Anyway they had a 110 in .270 with a somewhat rough looking 2-7 Redfield on it and they were asking $389 for it.  In my mind that's about $125 over priced.  Am I on track or just too long in the tooth?

BTW, I don't really want a .270 but rather I want a long action Savage to rebarrel to .338-06 Ackley.  I don't need one but I sure do want one...

I find that pawn shops are usually overpriced on firearms, especially lately.  Try offering what you think it is worth with the cash in hand.  If the action is in good shape and you really want to do the build, I think I would feel good if I could get it for $300.  I have done 2 builds from new Stevens 200, both of which I got for less than $300 out the door, but that was a few years ago. Right now I think I would be happy to get them for $400 out the door :-\ .  You can maybe make a few bucks "parting out" the parts you don't use.  One the other hand, if you really want to do a build, what are your other choices ?

I started the negotiations and was told that's what it's worth, take it or leave it.  I left it.  Last winter I passed up on a 7mm mag Savage for $250 but I don't remember what it had for a scope but I do remember I was broke.

Anyway I'm going to wait for a good deal to come along for this project.  There's no way in hell I'm going to start this project with an over priced rifle...

The Savage Axis is a long action. I bought one not long ago for less than $300 out the door. Buy one in 30-06 and slap a new barrel on it and either rework the trigger or get a Rifle Basix and put on it and you will have a very good rifle. True, not as pretty as some, but it will be reliable and shoot well.

I wanted a Remington 780 in 222 because I had one years ago and it was very accurate. I was told that one came in on an estate sale, they were asking $500 for it and would not budge. I did not buy it and ended up spending more for a Savage Target action and building my own. I just do not like to be taken.

Good Luck and Good Shooting

I envy those fellows that got those Stevens 200's for $175 a while back from Academy. But Pensacola was the closest store at the time, 820 miles, & 13 hours away, and that store didn't have what I wanted anyway.  I think the closest store that had what I wanted was in Texas. Anyway, that good deal passed me  by. I don't like being taken ether.  The way things are going, I may just have to decide I have enough actions & swap barrels when I need a change. I wish you good fortune in your search ;)  ... Jim
