Can't find primers

Thanks, Jer

After looking again this morning I am going to assume there are no primers out there.  If you're juststarting to reload you are late to the dance. :'(
Thanks, Jer

Of all the online sources that I have dealt with are so far booked up with orders that they are no longer taking any new backorders. Might be a year or so before that mess clears up again, if it continues like the last big run.
Outlets local here are still getting small shipments but they are sold before they hit the shelves. Unless you know somebody that works there, it's sorry, we're sold out already.
Next best bet is to try friends, family, neighbors, co-workers or anyone you know who is or has been a handloader.
Garage sales sometimes can yield a few from time to time.

Good luck with your search.

http://www.ammunitionstore.com/products/large-pistol-standard-primers-wolf-performance-1000-pc-box.html

These were all I could find. I have never bought from them and have never used wolf, but if you really need some it might be worth a shot.

that will split with you without twisting
your ear and making you squeel.

Sixty bucks a box?  All I can say is ouch...  I still have some that I bought for 10 bucks a box.  I suppose we'll never see them that cheap again...

,Any store will be out. You'll have to find a local and preferably not well known gun dealer, or someone who'd be willing to trade or something

put an ad online or otherwise
for a f.t.f. local swap one for one
with some you have extra of.

i've seen that here, swap o.t.o.
large rifle for small pistol, etc.

or any other kind of swap or barter.
if you have a special skill, say maybe
trim a tree for primers, or get your
truck running, personally show you
how to butcher a hog, etc.

I agree with Ranger99, finding some locally is your best bet. I live not too terribly far from several dealers. When I'm in their area I always check in. Sometimes I get lucky. Sometimes it's scary. I went into Bass Pro Shops this last Tuesday. Very few bullets, no primers and in their whole powder section...............one can of Titewad. The shelves looked like a grocery store close to the coast when folks know a hurricane is coming. I think folks are afraid of a different kind of hurricane now. It's definately on my mind.

I was told yesterday that a big part of this shortage is due to the government. They are stockpilling ammo for themselves for another war. They took the figures of how much ammo they used for the war in Iraq and and figured out how much they would need for a war lasting 25 years and they are stockpilling it . The shortage should last for about 14 to 18 months from what I heard.

If you add Iraq and Afganistan together you could come up with a figure for 25 years--so for what it is worth--maybe true or just someones imagination--but the shortage is real. Good luck.

Went into my local GS today and bought two pounds of powder (the last of the W231 he had). He said 'you're smart to take those, I can't seem to get powder or primers right now"..... 'don't know how long it might be'.

He had a few boxes (100 ct.) of small rifle and magnum pistol primers but not much else.  I've been looking for small pistol primers but can't find them anywhere.

owner to owner (maybe?).  Typically called trade/barter/purchasing face to face rather than shipping components illegally in an attempt to avoid procedures and fees.  The penalties for shipping illegally significantly outweigh the benefits.

one to one

i.e. a box of 100 small rifle for a box of 100 large pistol etc.
since they are the same price.
surely there is someone in your area in the same boat but
needing what you may have a larger supply of. . . .

Better yet, you can use small rifle primers in the place of small pistol primers.  I've done it for .380 auto, .38 special and .357 mag.  I had to work up the loads again but it wasn't that much different.  Also none of my guns or my friends guns had a problem setting them off.

Unfortunately you can't do that that with large primers.  Large rifle primers are deeper and won't set flush in pistol cases...  It the first primer scare under Clintonovich, I couldn't load rounds for my .45 auto but I could shoot my .357 all I wanted...
