Some Handi Ideas
« on: February 10, 2013, 06:50:38 AM »
As most folks here already know, I'm old, lazy and suffer from CRS.  To overcome some of the problem, I've come up with a few things to make life simpler.

First I started using nine shot butt stock cartridge holders.  I cut a slit in the bottom and place the hole over the swivel stud which keeps it from squirming around.  Besides holding ammo, it serves another purpose.  All my Handis are sighted in for the longest range load that maintains accuracy.  The cartridge holders are filled with that load.  I can't remember all of those ballistics for each rifle, so on a 3 x 5 card, I mark the load, velocity, sight-in range and the rise and drop increments to that range and beyond and tuck it under the cartridge holder.  Before hunting or shooting with a particular rifle, I pull out the card and take a refresher course.  Now I know what I've got in my hands.  If I change a load, I change the card.

Great idea Pete.!  If only I could remember the 'safe place' I put those cards.

Thanks for the tip, Pete. You will save me a bunch of ammo, I sometimes forget which load is which and blast away until I can tell where the gun is shooting.

Pete,

+1 on those buttstock cartridge holders.  I usually just load 5  so there is a space between each cartridge.  Makes it a lot easier for me to grab another round with gloves on.

Thanks Tom for that idea.  It would work great in the winter here.  I generally fill them up with all nine only because 90 percent of the ammo is down at the gun room.  Don't need 9 rounds.  In the large bore, heavy kickers, the extra little weight of the ammo might cut the recoil a hair.

I'm going to try this. I didn't think I was getting too old until today when I found my turkey hunting chair with two decoys under it sitting right where I left it in the woods 10+ months ago. ::)

Thanks, Dinny

Patty and I stopped by the store last evening to pick up two items.......neither one of us could remember the second ??? ???   She figured it out after she got inside and looked around.  We need to start tattooing stuff backward on our forehead so when we look in the mirror we can remember.

CRS is a bad disease to have especially after two divorces.  I can't remember what I have and what I don't! ;D
