does anyone know the mathmatic formula for lead dilution?  10lbs of pure - 2lbs 70%/30% lead/antimony - 1lbs of 50/50 = 94-4-3 alloy mix.

This is what I use,you will need either Microsoft Excel or OpenOffice Calc. When I finally ended up getting a hardness tester and check my bullets I had cast for alloys I mixed form PB,WW,Lino,Tin it matched up within one or two BHN of what the calculator showed.

found out how its done. 10 lbs lead + 2lbs 70%30% lead /antomony + 1 lbs 50%- 50% lead tin = 91.5%lead 4.62%antamony 1.9% tin

                                                    13lbs of total alloy

                                        10 lbs of lead X 100%= 10
                             70%lead in 2lbs lead/ant= 2 lbs x 70%= 1.4lbs of lead
                              50% lead in 1lbs lead/tin= 1lbs x 50%= 0.5 lbs of lead
                             ---------------------------------------------------------
                                     10 + 1.4 + 0.5 = 11.9 lbs of lead / 13 lbs total alloy = 91.5% lead in 13 lbs

part 2                               2lbs x 30% antomony = 0.6lbs of antomony / 13lbs of total alloy= 4.62% antomony
part 3                               1lbs x 50% tin           = 0.25lbs of tin / 13lbs of total alloy = 1.92% of tin

                                                     91.5% + 4.62% + 1.92%=  98%% of 13lbs alloy mix

Just had to find out how they did that!

Lyman #2 was 20 lb lead 1 lb 95/5 soder so I have been told . That was old and back before soder was changed to meet plumbing codes and EPA regs . 95/5 was tin/lead . So if you get a stash of old soder , yard sale comes to mind it might contain no antomony or very little. Pretty easy to tell when it melts it looks gritty .

Shootall it might very well be. this amount was just something i came up with for the math formula to put on here and i could compare my answer to the excel table that will calculate it for you as mentioned by res45.

I would not begin to know the math involved . It was in an old reloading book and others have qouted it. If I remember it was for harder bullets. Then also if you want antonomy you can add magnum bird shot as it has it in its mix.
