Kodiak Bullets
« on: September 19, 2003, 05:13:25 PM »
Just curious if any you native guys in Alaska have used or use the kodiak bonded core bullets from Alaska bullet Works.

Would like to know how they perform, thinking of them for my new Remington 673 in 350 Rem Mag.

Thanks guys,
peartree from the hicks of Vermont

Whenever someone tags something with a name from Alaska: Kodiak, Alaska series, Alaska pack......whatever. It is just an advertising gimic to try to make you think that you need something form the last frontier that everyone up here uses.

I believe the Kodiak bullets are really made in Juneau Alaska and are suppposed to be pretty well built.  You might try calling Great Northern Guns in Anchorage.  I happened to be in there when they were discussing what they were going to carry for sale.  They have some pretty informed staff and clientele there. I doubt they'd carry them if they are junk.

I have heard alot of good things about the Kodiak bullets. A few respected gunshops carry them. As for GNG being respected and if they carry it is a good product, well thats a matter of opinion. It maybe personnal to me since everytime I goin there I always get in an arguement with 1 person in particular, but if you dont mind getting raped on prices, they are a good shop.

GNG

Most of my dealings there have been with Joe the owner and he has been right with me.  I have to admit the last time I was in there, they had a salesman that really got to bugging me - hard sell on stuff I didn't want.  But I don't argue just told him I'd ask him if I needed help.  GNG is a little better than Mt. View Sports on prices.  The big thing is that GNG has often had stuff most other shops don't.  Been doing business with GNG since early 70's.

I just hope these new box stores don't drive GNG and Mt View out of business.  I was in Sports Authority last time in town and man, they wanted my personal history to buy a tin of air gun pellets.  And minimal REAL gun shop stuff.  I won't go back.

I was in there once and at the booth at the sportsman show, that was enough.  It was if they they knew everything and were high on their own pedistal.  The last three guns that I have bought have all been on-line auctions and I have not been dissatisified with any of them.

We do need a good store though. Wally World used to have reloading stuff in Anchorage but I only see powder and primers there now.

Sounds like a topic all of its own.

I doubt SW will cause GNG or mountain view to go out of business. It may open there eyes and cause them to lower there prices but they will survive.

As for GNG, I have never gotton along with the big guy. last time I was in there I was looking for a holster for my taurus 450. As soon as I said taurus he basically walked away. Well, I like arguments so I had to confront him on his people skills. Other salesman I did get along with but that one guy just rubbed me the wrong way from the beginning.
