I have been a mathews guyand bought a new one about 5 straihjt years just to keep practicing all summer. then 3 kids later i had the same one for 4 years. was at cabelas this week and picked up a bear anarchy for 499 which was in the bargain cave returned but look like never shot. they had them new for 899. swapped out my stuff and it shoots great no hand shock. accurate smooth draw. I first started bow hunting with bear but they were passed with tech upgades by many. i think they have caught up

Bear bows have been around for ever. They are an old line company. When archery was "young" as in hunting, Bear was a big name. Over the years archery has gotten really big .
Advances in technology has help the average person to get much better . More companies have been formed and with that more advances in bows.

All that being said, there is notthing wrong with Bear bows. Now they are one on many instead of one of a few in the early days.

Have a look at their new 2013 Bow catalog.  Some nice stuff.

I shoot a Bear Encounter.  I love it.  Not expensive and it shoots decent enough for me.  My friend has a Bear Mauler, a little more pricey than mine but also a little faster.  Mine is rated at 310 fps.
