Wanted to let you guys know about my search to put a scope on my 98 without drilling/tapping the rifle. I was looking at the Advanced Technology stock with the weaver scope mounts. Mikey told me to look at a mount that replaces the rear site or a clamp on. Well I did a search on the internet and low and behold I found a company not more than 20 miles from my parents house in Warren County, Pennsylvania that makes these mounts. A company called S&K. I called them up. They have been doing business for a long time, in the 60's I believe the web site says.
I am going home for Easter, so part of the trip is to take the 98 to him, he said for a local boy like me he would put the mounts on for me. He definately reccommended the one that replaces the rear sight than the clamp on style. These mounts are a little more than some I have seen, but for me it is now also a good feeling supporting a local business.
Neither my dad or brother, who live there ever heard of them. He said they sell very little locally, that everything is sent out. Funny huh. My dad bought a new rifle 30 years ago because he wanted a scope on his rifle and didn't want to touchs this one. A 20 minute drive he could have had the mounts he needed.
Thanks for your help.
Here is the companies web site. They sell mounts for lots of rifles.
