Mine is great.  "Handi" as a pocket on a shirt.  I've had long range handguns in the past bigger than this gun.  I wish H&R would use this barrel contour more often. 


Can anyone explain the NEF recoil pad?

I gotta say, when we first started talking about it. I had ZERO interest...

Now that I have seen it in clips as I posted... I am a bit interested.


My 32-20 does all it can do with more style... but there is just something about the 300 B/O package thats appealing...

I have it in other platforms and the way i figure it if the 300 BLK goes south, which would be difficult since it only takes 223 brass and 30 caliber bullets to stay shooting, a simple rechamber on this gun and I have a 7 twist 30-30...

Hey CW, this is an easy loader, and since I am shooting low pressure the cases should last forever. The 32/20 is a bit finicky and fragile neck wise, even though I love it. If H&R makes some of its own (300 AAC OR 32/20) I will buy one, that will have the 1 X7 twist, mine is more of a 300 Whisper since it has a 1x10 twist. I intend to try some 32 cal muzzle loader balls and a couple grains of Bullseye when I get time for squirrel/ plinking loads. I think that most people think too big..... I was at a gun auction today and they had a couple reasonable deals on rifles, one on a 300 WSM. I thought about it for awhile and realized that no matter how good the deal, it would be worthless.... it might set years in the rack. I would never shoot it, I would never burn that much powder, make that much noise, sling that much lead that far, especially at nothing........! However, with 22LR bringing $10 a box ( :o yes- you heard that right :o ) my current load of 6gr blue dot and a 112 gr cast in the 300 is cheaper to shoot. After all, deer season lasts only 4 weeks here (2 rifle/ 2 Muzzleloader-handgun) and that is the only time I shoot anything that could benefit from a larger rifle. I think once anyone handles the little gun, their mindset will change  ;)

300 BO brass is very easy to make.  I made about 100 pieceds today out of 223 Rem brass; sorry your AR guys but I had to do it. ;D     I have a Lee 2 cavity 230g Lee 300 AAC BO mold, so loaded up a few dozen with H110.   This is a BT boolit so it loads very nicely.  Will test my reloading handiwork on Monday morning. ::)     My 300 BO is a 1:10 twist stub job, with a 21" barrel, but it will stabilize the heavier bullets.  Of course I ain't  necessary shootin' subsonic, why bother, I can't hear much of nuttin' anyway. :P

Definately fun to shoot and make brass. I cast a 247 grain gas checked bullet for mine. With 10 grains lilgun it is more accurate than I am at 100.

Have you guys found an easy way to cut off the 223 cases? If I tried to just expand them I got a lot of splits, so I started grinding the neck and shoulder off right to the base of the shoulder. They then come out perfect in one pass, just trim them a bit that squares them to length. That works great but is time consuming. I will keep at it unless I find a better way until I get several hundred to work with. I have not got much range time in so far, I intend to get 2 loads worked out, a light bullet and heavy one. Maybe 1 jacketed load to use with the 357 cases.

There are videos on youtube showing how to do this.  I bought a cheap, as in under $30, cut off saw from harbor freight.  Tiny little thing.  Then I, tinkerer that I am, fabbed up a fixture to position the 223/5.56 brass and just do a quick cutoff on it.  One pass through the die, trim to length, and have fun.  Mine is an AR, but the brass doesn't care what it winds up in.  It is a bit slow, but I tinker at work, so I usually do a hundred piece batch, one step each night til it's ready.  Then I start on another hundred.  I have about 500 worked up and ready, another 500 to do in the next 2 weeks or so.

I use a dremil tool with a cut off wheel... Then my Lyman power case trimmer.  Makes short work outta making cases. ;)

I dont know if a cut off die is yet available, but these work well too...

Size brass without stem. Use belt sander to grind off to new neck(bikerbeans trick) then finish in case trimmer.

Thanks for the link, maybe I can fix a jig like that for my reciprocal saw. I could get an adapter for the trimmer to drill, and I already use an  electric screwdriver on the chamfer piece. For Jason, have you had luck with the 357 brass? I have found that cast are hard to prevent runout in the short neck due to grease grooves, so I may have to wait until I get some jacketed bullets to try that.

Recoil similar to a 2 1/2 " 410 or less, a  30 carbine or a little more. Very little there.  If she cannot handle this, I doubt she can handle anything above a rimfire.
