Is the 50 G.I. really better for civilian carry versus 45ACP,etc.?
We're now cursed with the 7 round rule in New York.
Wondering if a more powerful caliber[factory loaded] could be used on my Glock 30?
Thanks.

Is it really better?
Who said that it was better in the first place?

It was promoted as being better by virtue of[slightly]bigger caliber and heavier weight projectiles.

You are only cursed by a rule if you choose to follow it.

no doubt has more stopping power then a 45 acp. It is going to be hard to find brass for and bullets will be more expensive but if you can deal with that it would be a great stopper. A 10mm with a blocked mag would probably do near as well and be cheaper in the long run though.

Hans:  I'm afraid to tell ya that in nys if you go to a bigger slug to make up for the fewer number of rounds you can carry in your pistol, them cuomoites will see you as a cowboy just lookin' to 'down' the first bad guy post the new gun ban, and I have no doubt that cuomo will send his personal eye-talian mafia legal lawyer team to fry your silly butt.

I would have to agree with Lloyd - go for a 10mm and use some nuclear detonating type round that will leave about a 2 foot hole in some bad guys chest.  Not necessarily speaking from experience in using factory off-the-shelf self defense ammo, but if you have to make up for the number of rounds lost to legalities with pure explosive, blast'm to pieces (here, swallow this lit stick of dynomite and try to keep it together..), totally devastating, leaving a lesson for the crowd to see type ammo, then go for it.......
